what do you guys think about referbs...i know those are the ones that you linked me. you think they're safe to use. personally, i've never thought referb electronics were that safe. what is your experience with them?

They have been tested and do have a 90 day warranty. If the unit breaks or has problems, it should show its ugly face in that time! Also, being on this tight a budget and wanting a pre build unit, its about all you find unless you can wait till Black Friday and be one of the lucky ones into the stores to get a deal before the mobs grab them all up. In addition do you want to deal with all the software problems of a new build rig? I'm so glad I stopped building for the most part due to the calls for help for free. You made the unit now where are the OS, office program and why is this doing this? :throw: Its so nice to say call the 1-800 number and ask them! *click*

Dell refurbs are perfectly fine.

Most of the parts that Dell sends out as replacements are refurbs. You'll be alright with them.

Plus, at least you know that if something goes wrong, you'll be able to find a replacment part very easy with Dell.

Dell refurbs USED to carry the same warranty as new. This may still be the case - I haven't looked lately.

Yes, refurbs are fine - I've bought lots of them from the Dell outlet & always had good luck.

For warranty, it depends on the machine you buy -

Inspirons/Dimensions bought from the Home Office store I believe only get 90 days. Vostros & Optiplexes from Small Biz gets one year next business day on site (which is why I always shop in the Small Biz sore at Dell). Precisions in the outlet actually come standard with THREE years of next day, on site service.

You can't even build a machine that cheap once you include the service & the OS.

Everex used to be a pretty good system builder - I haven't heard about them in a loooong time, tho...

I'd stick with the Dell refurb over a Wal-mart PC any day.
