it's carter's 4th next week and i wanted to get him something extra cool. i worry that we've been paying a lot of attn to the oldest because he's in school and the youngest because she's the youngest and....my little girl. :)

so i thought i might spring for a toy that will make his older brother jealous. lol.

is 4 too young for one of the GB iterations? if not, which one should i get? any recommended games? and are there ways to get one later for my oldest and have them play against each other?

I would stick with the SP. You can still find a few around. The games are a bit bigger and more durable and cheaper. They have a lot of kiddie titles too.

Patrick will be 4 in Feb and just last month was playing with Audie's DS and broke the hinge on it. It's playable but broke. He is now restricted to the SP. Although we are thinking about buying him a Leapster.

I agree with chrissy. Just please look at the games and check the age rating. You can probably find really cheap games on ebay and ebgames for the GBA.

My 3YO has the leapster... it's defintely more geared towards learning games, and probably a better way to spend time...

I just got my nephew (4 years old) a leapster for his birthday and he loves it. The games are fun for him and he's learning at the same time. That's the way I'd go and save the game boys and stuff until they're older.

Yeah... Leapster or LMAX all the way.

Much better than Gameboy at that age, as they actually can LEARN while they play. :)

I'd almost say no, if only because if the games require reading, they get frustrating. On the other hand, my 3 year old plays wario on the DS just fine. Depends on the kid.

Also, check out places like Game Stop. You can get used ones for cheap. Don't buy them new, way too expensive

I would go with a Leapster instead.

I would recommend V-Tech. We purchased one for my son when he was three and even then, some games were frustrating for him to play. Now that he's 5, he still plays it but now wants a WII.
