The upset of top teams continues through the final week of the season with #1 and #2 going down. OSU must be glad they didn't have to play the last few weeks which means they did not have a chance to lose. Who will join them? Georgia is tne next highest ranked team that did not lose this week. They have two losses. Kansas has only one, but did not even get the chance to play for their conference title. That did not stop Nebrasks from going to the title game (and losing) a few years ago. LSU? Lower ranked, but playing well and both losses were in triple overtime. They seem to be the favorite for now. What about USC or Oklahoma? The game is still going on, but it looks like Hawaii will not finish the season as the only unbeaten. They will be out of the picture. An exciting year for college football and the bowl games should be pretty fun to watch.

How can you mention USC and OU without mentioning VT? I realize that I am very biased, but I think the discussion has to come down to VT, UGA and LSU.
If you don't have an issue with a team that didn't make their conference championship game or win their conference making the NC game then UGA should be the one.
If that is an issue then it is down to VT and LSU. LSU beat VT by 41 back during the second week of the season so that gives LSU an edge. However, that loss is already factored into the polls that have VT higher in one and LSU in another. VT has been much better down the stretch and has better losses (both #2 at the time and both still top 15). VT has won 5 straight and the only game they have lost since the LSU game was the miracle comeback by BC. LSU has lost two since then (Kentucky was top 15 at time, now unranked. Arkansas was unranked at time, now #25), both in triple OT. VT has beaten 6 teams with winning records and 3 teams in the top 25. LSU has beaten 5 teams with winning records and 4 teams in the top 25.
OU lost to an unranked Texas Tech team last week or they would be in the driver seat right now. USC lost to Stanford at home and has only beaten 2 teams with winning records this season.
In the end I think it comes down to VT's loss at #2 LSU back in week 2 versus LSU's loss at home to an unranked Arkansas team last week. Obviously I have a dog in this fight but I do value the more recent achievements and recognize how different these two teams are now versus when they matched up in week 2.

I do not have a lot of room to talk after my team blew their chance to go to te NC but....VT did not just lose to LSU, they got their a$$es handed to them. That game was not even close. To say that LSU has "an edge" when compared to VT might be the understatement of the season. To compare the loss by LSU, a team that I dislike by the way, with VT's loss to LSU is crazy. LSU played a tight (3OT) game with Arkansas. On the other hand, the LSU/VT game was over with 6 min left in the 1st quarter. And it isn't like VT turned the ball over (i.e. made many miscues) that gave LSU the game. Teams change during the season but when comparing VT and LSU the game back in week #2 is still important.
In my opinion, no team should be playing for the NC because nobody deserves it this year.

We agree on this point.
Also, I realize that VT's loss to LSU at the beginning of the season was terrible, but UGA's bad loss to UT was never used as an excuse to exclude them from the picture.
