Just wondering... I haven't seen too many threads on G|A about it.
I bought it about 2 weeks ago when it went gold (got the Collector's edition), and so far I've had a blast playing it.
Pretty much, I've played all the UT games but I had gotten away from them into the MMOG world so coming back was like visiting an old familiar friend.
I love the vehicles... hence I play alot of Vehicle CTF. Anyone else out there playing???? :wavey2:

I think it got blasted out of the water by Halo 3, Mass Effect, Rock Band, Mario Galaxy, Assassin's Creed, Orange Box, COD4, and even Crysis. Way, way too many games out at once.

Hail yes, but so far I only have the demo.
I'm VERY impressed that they didn't go nuts with the hardware requirements like SOME games (ahem, Crysis, I'm looking your way).
I'll hopefully snag the full version as soon as I have some time to play the silly thing.

The demo was tight... I'm still a "fanboi" of the Suspense map in VCTF.
Also, with the new Necris vehicles, the full version has really has some good gaming going on. Of course, I'm still a Manta whore... running over folks. PANCAKE!!!! ROAD RAGE!!! VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER!!!! :heh:
j00 gotta love the Announcer. :D

So has anyone else started playing this game yet?
If you do, my friend list game name is D4rkfury. Send me a friend invite and lets play some Vehicle CTF! :D
How different is this from UT2k4?
It doesn't sounds very different, and didn't look to be vastly different from looking at the packaging.

There's not a lot of differences - improved graphics, vehicle physics are different (they're a little harder to control), there are some new vehicles (check out the darkwalker below)
But the best thing IMHO is that they're keeping the franchise going by releasing an updated version.

So what in general did not impress you?
Did you give it a fair shot? Personally, I liked every game that has come out for UT since the beginning.
Of course alot of folks complain about "this and that" (The vehicles were better this way... that way, This gun is better than that gun, etc...)
Pretty much I just think it's a solid clean game.. released a little bit early (therefore a few more patches are in order) however it just sticks to the tried and true UT formula.

I actually have to agree with Jeff. They did a great job in releasing a new version with updates and doing it very regularly. I do think, though, they did a poor marketing job and got overwhelmed by a lot of other good games.
I've been a fan with UT (and a Quake4 hater) for a while now and I think after playing games like Assassin's Creed, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 (yes all very different games to UT, bear with me) I'm expecting just a little more than a run and gun game. I know people love that genre but I was expecting a little more than that.
With that said, you're right DF. It is a solid and well done game. Just fire the marketing dept.

Yeah... there was alot of stuff out, but honestly, UT3 was the only game I bought (I have a hard time now finding time to play City of Villians now as well...)
As far as UT goes... well, it's Unreal Tournament. What more could they have added to make it better? They already have like 4 or 5 different modes of gamplay (Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, CTF, VCTF, Warfare). I do miss that they took out the mode where you had to score the "football"... but hey... ok.
Pretty much, for many of us diehard UT fans... I guess we're just stuck in our ways. When I play UT, I don't even wanna think... I just wanna cut loose and mow my enemies down. So many other games have complex stratgey, so I appreciate UT's emphasis on "reaction" more so than just all out strategy.
It's definitely an easier game to play then put down and go do something else then many of the other game I've played. Game addiction is such a terrible thing... but I still gotta have my fix every now and then. :D
