Came home to find my just bought 24hrs prior DVD player gone (but they left the remote behind), about $700 in cash missing, $450ish in liquor gone, half a tool kit (who steals a tool kit thats missing half the **** in it?) and my beloved Nokia N800 tablet with a 8GB SD card in it, that had the only copy of my photos from the Germany trip.

They came in through the fire escape window, which doesnt lock well. So now the gate thats on that window has a huge padlock, and the window itself has been screwed shut.

But it could have been worse. They could have taken one of my 3 PCs, my 17" lcd or my 15" lcd. They also missed my sisters XMas gift from last year (she asked me to hold onto it until she moved and the moving never happened) a 27" LCD TV still in its box sitting on top of my closet. And had they moved some of the papers on my desk, they would have found my new camera or my Nintendo DS.

They also passed up on the game cube

Man, that is horrible!

Re the pictures - I feel for you....that is one of the reasons why when I took my son to Hawaii last year for vacation (major, major adventure for a single Mom and Child!) I made sure to transfer the photos off my memory card every couple of days. I have those pictures in so many places (on disc, on computer, downloaded to Costco.com....) that it's ridiculous!

I hope that either the scumbags get caught or you can lure them in with a reward for the memory card.

And at least you weren't hurt...

Man, that sucks, cp. Hope they find the creeps and like ren said, it'd be nice if you have insurance. Of course the pictures could never be replaced. :disa:

Ok, so yes its in the building i bought with my sister, and no I dont have renters insurance, but I do have landlords, and since im the landlord Im hoping it will cover me, and if not at least the rent money that was stolen.

As for the other stuff, I have to see if my CC company offers to pay for stuff stolen.

In terms of catching anyone...doubtful. They couldnt get any fingerprints (not only did the cops say that they are usually smart enough to wear gloves, but youd be surprised at how many surfaces cant be printed).

I had a coworker who speaks fluent spanish call all the local pawn shops, but they dont really deal with electronics. So odds are whomever took it, will just not figure it out, and throw it out.

THe only other thing I can do is pay attention on recycling days to see if I spot any $50-$75 empty bottles of champaign. They got 3 bottles of Moet Imperial from me.
