State police in Bethlehem said no charges will be filed against a truck driver after a large piece of ice flew off his vehicle and slammed into the windshield of an ambulance responding to a call in East Allen Township.
Around 11:15 a.m., police said a 3-foot-by-2-foot chunk of ice flew off a tractor trailer truck cab driven by Earl Seese II of Easton. The ice crashed into the windshield of an ambulance from Hanover Township, Northampton County, causing moderate injuries to two crew members.
A law passed in 2006 stated the summary offense, punishable with a fine of up to $1,000, said the falling ice must cause serious injury or death.
State police said the ambulance driver, Jessica Strivelli, 22, of Saylorsburg, had moderate head injuries. Her passenger, Danielle Westgate, 25, of Bethlehem, had minor hand cuts.
Two passing motorists saw the ice chunk fly off Seese's truck and called state police, a release states. One called in the truck's license plate number and the second told police what direction the truck was headed.
Police said Seese was stopped on Airport Road at state Route 22.
