Yep...it's been a year since I've played, and many, many, many years since I've owned, a game console. But, my gf gave me a new PS2 for Christmas (as well as an XM system, with a receiver that can be brought to any car, etc...an item I know many people love, but I just have to figure it out. A great gift, esp knowing I don't like many of the radio stations around here, and I like talk-radio, etc.)
So, anyway, I did get a bunch of games with the console. But, being out of the loop and kinda clueless regarding modern consoles...
What should I get next? What accessories or games are now mandatory? I know the console has been out a few years, so the newer games have to be trimmed down to be handled by its processor, etc., which can be a good thing. It's amazing that the new PS2 is so freakin' small! Perhaps I'll go the 360 route when I get an HDTV later this year, but in the meantime...
What should be next on my list? :)

There isn't much in the way of accessories you need unless you want to play on line. In that case, you need to get a head set.
What types of games are you into?

Thanks for the recs everyone!
Also, does anyone know anything about the USB adaptors or PS2-specific keyboard/mouse combos? Learning first-person shooters with the regular controllers could be a pain. I like PC versions, so, if compatible, it seems like a good idea.
Never played golf in my life, but now I'm pseudo-addicted to Tiger Woods '08
Thanks again!

I read somewhere that at least one of the adapters doesn't work with a wireless kb/mouse setup; otherwise the reviews sounded fairly positive. I looked into it recently because I was thinking of getting a system but I can't stand the controllers either.

I only own three games now: NBA 2K6, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, and God of War.
If you like basketball, the NBA 2K series is top-notch, in my opinion. More simulation-esque and less arcade-like. If you like RPGs, SMT: Nocturne is absolutely amazing; the only catch is, you may not be able to find it very easily (eBay has new ones selling for like $80 and some used copies are going for just as much) because it was one of those limited release US versions of a popular Japanese game. Someone already mentioned God of War, but it's a super-fun action/semi-RPG.
I know there are lots of others, but I haven't kept up with PS2 games in a while myself. I mean, I only own three... :)

God of War 1 was much better than the sequel.
Ratchet and Clank Series (but play them in order)
Final Fantasy 12 (XII, not X-2: they are two different games) if you like role playing.
If you just feel like blowing crap up, buy Mercenaries or Hulk Ultimate Destruction
Devil May Cry

Ratchet and Clank Series (and yes, I agree with gwilks98, play them in order)
Guitar Hero (any of them)

I like my WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 07. Also got GT 4.... it's ok, nice graphics... but what is the big deal with the GT series besides graphics? I crashed hard and no damage to car....

WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 2006 had much better play control than the 2007 did, but fair enough there.
As for your comment regarding Gran Turismo, the lack of car damage seems to be the biggest complaint people have about the game. Where it does well however is the overall "feel" and handling of the cars. Pair it up with a good force-feedback wheel, and it proves to be an excellent simulator.

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 07 had a better roster.... well it has Mickie James and Lita. What a pair! But I did notice 06 got better ratings. I also have, given to me by my sister, WWE Smackdown bring the pain... THat is kind of fun too... if nothing else for Ultimo Dragon.
