This series kicked ass when I watched the pilot at Comic Con.... only fox can screw it now... I mean it friggin' erases the trainwreck that was T3

I kinda felt the same way... Like the writers sorta know where they want to go but aren't quite sure how to get there. I've seen it a lot on early episodes of shows so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. It usually takes a half dozen episodes before the writing settles down. Overall I gave it a "B", which from me is good for a pilot episode.
I did notice a few things that I did not like though. For example, the "bad" terminator kept missing John by pretty large margins - far too large for a killing cyborg. A robotic assassin that misses by 3 feet with a clear shot from less than 50' away needs it's marksmanship software updated.
I also got the feeling the writers want to push some kind of sexual tension between John and the "good" terminator. To me this is WAY off base because John's only history with a good terminator was Arnold in T2. This relationship was more fatherly/mentor than anything else. It would be like falling for the toaster (pardon the BSG reference). A better idea would be to make her a bit less knowledgeable about people/society to leave episodes about society open. This would be smarter than a "should I bang the hot android" episode.

If there is a way to screw this up, Fox will find a way. They have with virtually every other Sci-Fi series they've had (with the exception of X-Files).

I still liked it after I watched it again. And with what I know from Comic Con I am hyped. Fox didn't mess with the pilot. I will need to watch the second episode to see if the screw it up as we only got to watch the first hour.
Like all the writers said, this erases T3. So this can ONLY be good as T3 is a festering turd and did more to harm the Terminator series than anything.
oh and there is SWEET sexy Summer Glau... how my heart aches for her. I've missed my Summer aka River :)

I liked T3 too. Hmm...defintely something is missing in this pilot. I liked it but as I get older I feel uncomfortable when I see all the cops get shot at.
Oh yeah I agree on the markmanship of the Terminator. How come they don't run after John unless he's in a vehicle? I await tonight's episode!!

I predict less than one season. Too bad because Summer Glau was awesome in Firefly.

I thought it was alright. I watched it while doing some work, so didn't see all of it exactly.
I thought it was pretty funny when he shot at the chair and the bullets didn't go through, so they made sure to mention it later on, "The chair had Kevlar in it!"

I had to think about it a little bit because the timeline was confusing, but I believe it's actually right...
1984 - T1 - Kyle Reese/Sarah Connor, first terminator (Arnold plays t-800)
2/28/85 - John Connor born -
8/29/97 - supposed 'Judgement Day' - "delayed" in 'T2' with actions in 1995 re: Cyberdyne destruction in the movie (T-1000 Robert Patrick, Arnold plays t-800) [which means Sarah Connor would have killed Miles Dyson in 1995, when John is 10.. and gotten sent to the looney farm]
2000 - ? initial setting of Sarah Connor chronicles (John is '15')
[2005 - Sarah Connor dies in the T2-T3 timeline from Leukemia]
2007 - current time period of SCC (however, John is still 15 now, instead of 22)- "Cameron" says this is where Skynet starts.. (this is reasonable, given 2010 is T3 beginning)
(2010) - setting of T3 - because Connor is '25', Skynet comes online in movie [Claire Danes plays T-X, Arnold plays T101] - new 'Judgement day" [Now, this should never happen if we follow the SCC timeline]
(2029) - The 'future' where Connor sends everyone back from
------------
1) I think they're trying to make Cameron appear more 'human'.. but i don't like the sexual inneundo between John Connor and Cameron.. i mean, come on.. emotions, ok.. him wanting to 'do a toaster'.. heh.. although Summer, is awesome] [go Firefly/serenity]
2) Awful aim from a terminator at less than 20-40 feet.. what kind of Terminator did we get sent back? Looks like a dweeb compared to the T-1000 and T-X
3) Why did they send engineers to 1963 to build a "bank" and time machine, for them to use in '2000' when John is 15.. and not at some other point
4) Judgement Day obvious still isn't prevented if everyone keeps getting 'sent back'. Opening for T4, I'm sure.. I just hope Fox doesn't screw around too much with the series.. part of the whole 'T' thing is the cold harsh reality of a terminator and emotions.. man vs. machine.. i'm a little worried about all this emotional thing - [is this ST:TNG?)

I'm pretty certain that the timeline for this new show assumes the events of T3 won't happen. Kind of like Smallville vs the superman movies.
Also, Claire Danes was not T-X in T3.
Sending John forward 7 years should have weird consequences, though. Doesn't that mean that John in 2029 just instantly got 7 years younger?

My bad :) Sorry.. I was thinking more about Claire Danes (playing his soon to be wife)..
And meant to say Kristanna Loken..
Claire>Kristanna :)
Yeah, this 7 year forward stuff is weird.
Technically, they could even go backwards though, from where they are.. couldn't they?
What happens if they go 2000->2007 and then technically, they could use another machine to go to 2005, right?

But what if the two John's run into each other... the older John from 2007 and the John from 2000? Sorry not as versed in the T Verse... I just watch for Summer. She is super hawt!
MrGreg

Ah, but since 1999 John jumped forward to 2007, there is no 2007 John for him to meet, unless at some point 1999 John jumps back in time and goes through the timeline at "normal speed".

So far it seems to be okay but, I seriously do not think that Miss Headey is quite ready or not prepared mentally for this role. Maybe she will get better through the episodes ?!?!?!!!
I definitely agree with the time-line/time machine thing, the possibilities multiply.
And one more thing. If they could send guys back to 1963 to build a time machine, why did they not just build a few weapons that would completely zap the terminators ????
Just another idea to ponder.
