For a black toe nail to fall off?

AND why is it that my knee hurts more when I am not moving for a couple days than when I am walking miles upon miles?

They don't always fall off. I had a black toe nail for months before it just grew out and never came off.

I once jammed my big toe into a raised section of sidewalk while walking at night (wearing sandals). :yell: It probably took 3 or 4 months until the new nail grew out far enough below the black nail for the black part to fall off. But sometimes I've had a complete nail come off pretty quickly.

Never experienced the nail thing, but yick...

I'd think your knee hurts more when you're not moving because it's not stretched and doesn't see as much activity.

Your toenail falling off depends on where the original injury is! If it was the nail bed itself..yes, it probably will fall off-might take a few months though..if it's more of a pressure injury to the tissue underneath the nail, chances are it won't fall off but grow out. When I fell and broke my elbow a few years back and ended up with the nerve damage in my spine and leg as well, I smashed my foot into the car door while getting out of my car at my attorney's office..I didn't even notice that I had ripped the nail completely off my foot until I was in the office, glanced down and saw the puddle of blood forming around me! I never felt a thing!..to make it worse, my podiatrist told me to brush the nail bed with a toothbrush to stimulate the nerve endings, and then cover it with antibiotic ointment. I never felt the toothbrush either! (btw it was summer time and I had sandals on)

I believe it to be the nail bed. It happened back in November. It was a pressure thing I am assuming because the second toe on both feet are black and blue. I am freaky - that toe is longer than my big toe  and apparently they don't like walking long distances. :hihi: My right one looks worse than my left.

I don't like the looks of my feet to begin with, so I was just wondering when they would be "normal ugly" instead of "beat to death ugly".

As for my knee, I don't sit longer than an hr at a time, but do occasionally when working. I sit cross-legged on the computer chair, with my right leg straight and sitting on a shelf when I am at the desk. If I am at the couch with the laptop, I have my feet up on the trunk (full of yarn I haven't had time to work) that we use for a coffee table or I am in the recliner.

I do try to stretch it out often (after 10 min, it will remind me that I need to switch positions or change a load of laundry, go potty, chase Patrick etc.) but it's not helping. But yet, I can walk 3-5 miles at a time and it doesn't hurt.

So, apparently it took me asking about my toe nail for it to fall off. :) I now have a cute little baby toe nail where the ugly black and blue thing used to be. Believe me, it's the only thing cute about my foot.

AND as for my knee, I am making an appointment for it. I thought it was freaky enough that it hurt when NOT in motion and found that there is a condition that could explain it (http://www.medicinenet.com/patellofemoral_syndrome/article.htm). And it's really starting to hurt. But yeah, I am going for a doc's opinion on it because I really don't like this pain.
