NEW YORK - Sylvester Stallone says he used human growth hormone to get buff for the new "Rambo" movie, and defends its use.

"HGH (human growth hormone) is nothing," the 61-year-old actor tells Time magazine in its Feb. 4 issue. "Anyone who calls it a steroid is grossly misinformed."

Because it is nearly indetectable, HGH has become a substance of great concern in major league baseball and other sports battling allegations of rampant doping.

"Testosterone to me is so important for a sense of well-being when you get older," he says. "Everyone over 40 years old would be wise to investigate it because it increases the quality of your life. Mark my words. In 10 years it will be over the counter."
Stallone directed and co-wrote the new "Rambo" sequel, which arrived in theaters Wednesday.

is it against the law for a regular person to take hgh? I know athletes should have a tighter ban on what they can do but if its just for a movie, why would anyone care.

Susanne Summers has been pushing HGH for a long time too- promoting it as a "fountain of youth". She claims she only takes a "natural" version not a synthetic one. Genetic engineering has made it a bit easier to produce- it is normally made by extracting it from the pituitary gland of dead bodies. HGH does reduce body fat while increasing some lean body mass but is not shown to increase strength. HGH improvements in performance are believed to be more placebo effect while steroids offer a noticable improvement but make the user bulkier- which you do not find on HGH. The biggest benefit seems to be the water retention which can help cushion joints and speed recovery from injuries. It can lead to things like carpal tunnel though. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/baseball/bal-sp.hgh11sep11,0,5691551,full.story

It is still a hormone and hormones effect many things in the body and supplementing them can cause the body to change or even halt its own production. LIke any hormone, a person should only use it under the supervision of a doctor. There are is a lot of fake products out there sold as HGH and the real stuff is pretty expensive.

Side effects can include water retention including swelling of the hands, feed, and head, increased risks for cancer and cardiovascular disease. http://www.quackwatch.com/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/hgh.html

Supplementing HGH can lead to lower testosterone levels.

it also continues bone and organ growth. which is the reason folks like bonds and other athletes use braces, have bigger helmets, and need bigger shoes than before.
