SLC high speed NAND can read data at speeds up to 200 megabytes per second (MB/s) and can write data at speeds up to 100 MB/s, achieved by leveraging the new ONFI 2.0 specification and a four plane architecture with higher clock speeds. In comparison, conventional SLC NAND is limited to 40 MB/s for reading data and less than 20 MB/s for writing data.

I don't even know what NAND is... Hmm so memory and stuff? thats kind of cool. Isn't the bottleneck right now still harddrives? or did sata make that all better?
and why have you been waiting for this? Are you gonna make a boot drive on pure memory and run Doom really fast!

Nand is flash memory. This is the solution to the bottle neck.

but.. but.. i thought the bottle neck was HD's. Hmm if you say so! I'm excited too then... where is this band wagon and how can i get on it?

Yep, the bottleneck is the HDs. Fast flash memory means great speed from SSDs (HD replacement).

:stupid: you can use a flash drive as a hard drive.

Ah... SSD... That would be nice... So is there a timeline for further development of these? When can we expect good geek news out of this, beyond the apparently good business news?
