View Full Version : 'Jaws' actor Scheider dies at 75

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Roy Scheider, a two-time Oscar nominee best known for his role as a police chief in the blockbuster movie "Jaws," died Sunday. He was 75.

Scheider died at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, hospital spokesman David Robinson said. The hospital did not release a cause of death.

However, hospital spokeswoman Leslie Taylor said Scheider had been treated for multiple myeloma at the hospital's Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy for the past two years

He was a good actor. Wondered what he died of.

Myeloma is apparently a form of bone cancer. His face was so tanned it looked like the proverbial old catcher's mitt but he was definately a good actor. I think he needs a bigger boat.

One of my favorite actors of all time. Very sad. You know he did All That Jazz and Jaws 2 in the same year? A testament to his diversity.

RIP. Didn't he do Blue Thunder? Something akin to Air Wolf? I loved Jaws.

Roy Scheider was another of those talented, well-accomplished actors that never got an oscar.

Just off the top of my head he was also in:

2010 (Dr Floyd)
Blue Thunder ("catch 'ya later")
The Rainmaker (more of a cameo role though)
The Punisher (Frank Castle's Dad with the mini-arsenal at the vacation house)

He also did a LOT of voice-over work because of his smooth baritone delivery.

Wow RIP. When I first saw this on Yahoo I thought it read Rob Schneider.... but wow This guy was my hero keeping us safe for Jaws and what not.

Roy Scheider was another of those talented, well-accomplished actors that never got an oscar.

He did get nominated twice though (for movies neither of which you mentioned!)

Best supporting Actor for his role in The French Connection
Best Actor for his role in All That Jazz (probably his finest hour)

I loved Jaws!..I remember standing in line for HOURS to see it when it first came out..and yes, I was scared sh*tless!
