Hi all,

Some of you may know I have a tv blog. A friend suggested I add a forum, just for fun. I'm wondering how I should have them set up. I have 2 ideas but welcome any other suggestions!

My first thought was have 2 main TV categories. Network & Cable. In Network, I'd have each network (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX & NBC) and within each network, a small handful of shows with their own subforums (for ABC: Grey's, Lost, Men in Trees, Push Daisies, Reality, Samantha Who and one for all other ABC talk, for example). I'd do the same for Cable with networks like SciFi, USA, HBO, Showtime, MTV & VH1 plus an Other forum (for BBC America, Bravo, Discovery, TLC etc etc)

I hope that all makes sense. lol

Another idea was to not have tha many subforums. Do Network & Cable like the other. In each, have a Drama category, a Comedy category & a Reality category. Much more simple and wouldn't exclude any shows so no one would feel slighted. But all shows would be mixed in with each other so I wasn't sure if tha would outweigh the other.

TIA for any suggestions or (kind, please! lol) comments!

Jenny, sounds like a great idea!

Your categories sound pretty well organized, but I do have one thing to say. I don't know what the traffic to your blog is like, but I think a fledgling forum can be handicapped by having too many subforums. If the areas are too specific from the get-go, when you may not have as many members just yet, then you'll have just a handful of posts scattered among 10 forums. With fewer subforums, you'll initially have more people navigating to the same areas to discuss things. This can help when starting out, as it'll give more of an appearance of an actively thriving forum, which is typically more attractive to visitors who are thinking about registering. Then, as your membership increases and the demand for more specified categories grows with it, you can create subforums and be more confident that a good amount of people will populate them.

Sounds like fun, though. If I watched more TV (I hardly watch any at all), I'd probably stop by. :) Good luck!

Hmm, I don't know what traffic you could pull in and what shows might fall under this category, but maybe a foreign TV forum?

Eh, not a foreign tv forum at this point. I only get about 500 unique visitors a day and I don't deal with anything that doesn't air in the US on my site cause I have no good way to keep track. so... heh

But Freelance, that's exactly what I was thinking. I think I'll go with Network and Cable for now and then later on if I start getting any traffic to it, split those into more categories.

Thanks guys. :)
