iPod Shuffle Question

I have a question about my son's iPod Shuffle.

I gave it to a friend the other day so that she could put some music on it for me (from LimeWire maybe?) and now I have some songs in our iTunes library that I bought directly from iTunes that I want to put on the iPod too.

The problem is that the iTunes software keeps telling me that if I sync the iTunes library with the iPod then all the songs currently on the iPod will be gone.

Am I understanding the situation correctly? Is there a way around this?

I think that is correct. You can copy a library from itunes to a player, but it clears out the player's library first. What you should be able to do is find the itunes songs through My Computer, and drag them into the player, again using my computer to find the folder. Then it should work.
