The local Sears store is having a clearance sale on small mowers. They have a nice 6 HP push mower with a rear bag for approx. $170.

Someone told me not to buy Sears mowers because they are unreliable. Anyone know if this is true?

i know the older mowers after a year or 2 they can be a pain to start. the newer one i can not say. but at $170 for a 6 hp seem like a great price if it has a full warrienty ~ is it a briggs motor or a Honda. if its a Honda run back there and grab one hell grab 2 that a great price.if under a full factory warrienty .

I've had luck with them in the past - I believe they're all Briggs & Stratton & you can't go wrong with that. And yeah, 6HP for $170 is a great price. You probably couldn't buy the engine by itself for that.

I've had a Sears tiller for 5 years now and I haven't had any major problems with it. No leaks, starts right up. If you can pay a little more for a self-propelled mower, though, I would recommend it.

I don't have a big yard. Plus having more parts which could eventually fail is something I don't want. After thinking about it, there really isn't much to a small mower than the engine, the blade, the housing and wheels. I think I'll go for it.

Thanks, everyone.
