Favorite recipes??? Favorite food???

I can't really say that I have a favorite recipe because most of the things I cook (aside from baked goods) are not made with recipes..but I guess If I had to give one it would be for my chocolate almond cheesecake-or my date bars..but I can't give you either because they are MY recipes and someone else might make money off of them!..lol
My favorite food at the moment though is Avocado and Apple salad..mmmmmm

My mom used to make these oyster sauce noodles that I loved. It was a packet of egg noodles, ground beef, spring onions, vegetable oil and specific brand of oyster sauce. The oyster sauce was key because it was this semi-thick brown liquid that was salty. The company has changed the formula so now it's sweet instead like all the other oyster sauces. Ugh..I've went through many brands and they are all sweet. I'd pay $100 or more right now if I could find a bottle of that stuff.

Same with me with the flavoring Mapleine maple flavoring..back in the day it was readily available, then it slowly started disappearing off the shelves..finally it was gone. I heard they still make it somewhere but the recipe of it is drastically different and the flavor isn't as concentrated as it used to be..I had about three tablespoons left in my bottle, and I had an aunt that had a full unopened bottle and she wouldn't part with it..when she passed away, she actually left it to me in her will (as joke I think but it was still a nice thought)..it lasted about 1 year-I made a maple cake or cookies every week in her honor and distributed them to my aunts and uncles who were still living..they thought it was great. I'd kill for a bottle of pure mapleine now..

The McCormick Company still makes Crescent Mapleine, but it's really hard to find in the stores.

Crescent Mapleine can be purchased from McCormick Company by calling their mail order number at (800) 474-7742. As of December 1, 2001 they sold the standard 2 oz. bottles for $1.94 ea. The shipping is $4.00. for six bottles. They take VISA. Better buy several bottles while it's still available.

I doubt it's the ORIGINAL formula..which wasn't owned by McCormicks..but hey! I'll give it a try and see what comes of it..iF IT IS any good I'd be happy to send you some cookies!

Mine is Yakoda. It is a Greek dish that my Grammy used to make. Oh the smell is to die for. It takes a full day to make because of the crust work. You can fill it with whatever you like. My favorite is ricotta and cottage cheeses,eggs and green onions and braised lamb. The crust is layered and flaky. Sort of like a baklava crust but not sweet.

Mmm..sounds old school and VERY tasty..I love lamb anyway but when it's in dishes like this it's the best!~
