I was wondering if anyone in the San Diego area knows of a restaurant that is doing molecular gastronomy type things ala wd-50 or moto?

Also, are there any restaurants that you would recommend? I'd like to take my wifey out for our one year aniversary.

Thanks!

well, ask EsDee, he'll prob know.

The places i would recommend would prob not be "fancy" enough for a one year anni dinner. haha.

i just asked a chef friend about the molecular gastronomy thing. he said he doesn't think there is one down in SD.

Roni,

How about in LA? Would your chef friend happen to know the LA restaurant scene?

i'll ask, are u looking for molecular gastronomy? or just some fine dining?

also, if you can make it up to LA, i can get u guys into the magic castle. that's a pretty good anniversary gift i'd say.

Just looking for some fine dining....we've never had the experience of the molecular gastronomy thing before so it would be cool to do.

Take him up on the Magic Castle, take him up on the Magic Castle.

You'll get fine-ish dining and the best, most coolest, totally awesomest atmosphere ever.

Also, I highly recommend their lobster bisc (sp?). It's the yummiest ever.

well, i agree with yvonne, it's not the BEST dining in the world, but you're not gonna go there for the food. It's the magic that you're going for.

Just ask Maarchk, ShawnLee, Houdini, and Apex.

If you like seafood, I recommend Oceanaire in SD Gaslamp.

The Chef was on one of those cooking reality shows.

Oh wow....it's Malarkey....

I liked the stuff that he cooked in Top Chef....Hmmm....

The wifey isn't as big of a fan of seafood as I am but the stuff she's had has been at high end restaurants and she's liked it. Maybe I can convince her to go there...

And Roni, I just might take you up on that Magic Castle thing. Our aniversary isn't until July 29th. Is it able to be held until then?

I went to Oceannaire for restaurant week and I was not impressed with the food. If you want trendy and expensive with decent food then Nobu just opened up downtown in the Hard Rock Hotel (the Nobu from New York, not the Nobu in Del Mar).

I also liked JSix in Hotel Solamar. The bread basket alone is worth the reservation. The food was excellent.

If you are looking for something original and unique try "Opaque" in The Grant Hotel downtown. It's held every Saturday and it's a dining room in complete darkness. The idea is to force you to use other senses to experience the food. Quirky and ridiculous? Yes! An anniversary to remember? YES! I've never been but I'd be anxious to hear if anyone else has tried it. http://www.darkdining.com/

Ah, Gordon Ramsey took a challenge winning team there during one season of Hell's Kitchen. :dinner: Their reactions were high, but that may have been because they were in the dark for an hour with Chef Hotty-hot McHotty.

*I'd* like an hour in the dark with Ramsey. Grrrrawl. :winkie:
