i finally got my razr hacked the way i want it. this is just in time for me to just plain want a new phone.

right now i'm looking for a phone that has a qwerty keyboard. i'd like to be able to transfer files to and from my pc. i'd like it to play music, altho on a limited basis as i have an ipod. it should play media on the internet, and display the internet as close to with a regular browser as possible.

i'd like an iphone. but who wouldn't? talk about rockin! but i don't have at&t.

i looked at the lg voyager. it seems nice enough. but while trying it in the store, it seemed really slow as hell. i tried to get it to play some content online, but couldn't manage because of flash restrictions, lack of a decent media player, and general stupidity. maybe mine.

i also looked at the lg env2. it was ok, but the browser was fugly. a bit faster than the voyager tho. no touch screen, but i can hang as long as the rest works ok. it currently doesn't. again, flash restrictions.

i then looked at the blackberry. my girlfriend likes hers, and i can see why. it's substantially faster than the v-ger. the keyboard was weird, and would take some getting used to. i couldn't get it to play media, altho i could see that it has a player that started when i had the content in hand. but still, no ticky, no laundry.

so i looked at the motorola q. as much as i dislike windows, i thought i'd give it a chance. not as fast as the blackberry, but not slow either. good keyboard, but no flash.

so after my failure at the cave, i have to ask here. does anyone here have any good recommendations? i don't mind hacking a phone if it means getting it to work the way i want. ideally i'd like a phone that i can put a linux distro on, but a hacked native distro would be fine as well. just want it to surf the web, play media, and interface with the pc.

thanks in advance

Which service provider are you with right now? Verizon? Well if you get a Windows mobile phone, You can really hack it and add a lot of programs.

I love my CrackBerry.

I love my Curve. It is addicting, really easy to use (after you get used to to it) and quite useful.

Crackberry has a lot of the apps and tools that are useful.

I would suggest the BB Curve.

Too bad you are not on GSM so you could get the BB Curve with WiFi.

I have the BB pearl, I wanted something smaller. I do wish it had a qwerty keyboard, but it was a tradeoff I was willing to make.

xda-developers.com is the ultimate in WIndows mobile hacking stuff and howardforums.com is really good too. I was a windows mobile user for 6 years and I recently got the iphone. The OS is awesome..

I second the recommendation for both sites. I've tweaked my HTC Touch quite a bit (adding a ROM that enables the GPS module is probably my favorite feature). :)

I would recommend a phone from Sony Ericson.
The P1 it has a qwerty keyboard built in it.
I suggest searching for it on the net.

I'm switching from Verizon to T-Mobile and want to get a new phone when I make the change. No browser needed, and I don't do a huge amount of texting so a QWERTY isn't high on my list.

Any suggestions for a reliable T-Mobile compatible phone? I'm considering the Motorola W490.

What are you looking for in a phone?

Wait until June 23rd and get the Nokia 6301 (S40 phone), which as 2MP camera, QVGA screen, and most importantly WiFi for UMA (Hotspot@Home) calling only.

Right now the just-released Nokia 5301 is a very decent GSM phone.

I would stay away from any Motorola with the old Synergy OS.

i opted to get an lg voyager. i'm still deciding whether or not i like it. but i decided to go with it because i managed to find some hack sites for it.

so far i've been able to surf the net and play youtube vids, which is a step in the right direction. i can transfer files to the phone, so downloading may not be as big a deal as it could be otherwise. i can use it as an mp3 player, or i could watch movies. so it may be a keeper :)
