Idiot cop in NC gave me a ticket for doing 79 in a 65 zone. The part about all this that really gets me mad is that he ignored a few other cars ahead of me, and they were going faster!

I got one ticket in my life. That was about 4 years ago. I was going 36 in a 30 downhill (clear sunny day about noon). Now that is something that I did get very mad about. I mean come on. The funny thing is that the cop asked me if I wanted a careless driving ticket ($125 with no points) or a speeking ticket ($80 with 3 points). That right there tells me she was just out to make some money. I took the careless driving ticket so my insurance rates wouldn't go up. I went out the same day and bought a radar dector. Speed all the time and haven't been caught yet. That radar dector has saved me so much money!

That was my first ticket. Blah... It's just frustrating to get caught 14mph over the limit, when I've been doing 15-30mph over the limit regularly. :heh:

Anywhos, which detector did you get?

Before any of you Valentine enthusiasts start expressing your sentiments on "all other detectors", I just can't justify a $400+ piece of equipment on my crummy car. :(

$400???? LOL you must be crazy. You can get a great rador dector for less then $100. Sometimes a lot less. It has saved me so much money, it has differently paid for itself quite a few times.

I have never gotten a speeding ticket, despite getting pulled over all the time (I drive like a maniac). That wonderbra has paid for itself, over and over....

ok, people aren't going to like my post, i'm sure.

as my brother always says, "speed limits are laws, not suggestions"

by going faster than the limit, you are putting yourself at risk for a ticket. if you do speed and get caught, its your own fault. now i don't know why the cops didn't pull over the people going faster than you, but that doesn't make what you were doing any less wrong.

now, i speed just as much as other people (possibly more). and the one time i actually got pulled over, i sucked it up and paid my ticket and didn't complain.

i have no problem with speeding, as long as you have control. If it was between a good driver going 100 on the freeway or a dumbass who can't keep his car going straight, I'd bust the dumbass. Going fast doesn't mean you will crash. But driving bad does.

And I'll further explain myself  : I'm complaining about him not pulling the multiple cars ahead of me, which were going at least 5mph faster. Nowhere in the post did I complain about me having to pay the fine.

Go troll elsewhere.

There's going over the speed limit, and then there's driving at unsafe speeds. Visibility was good, road was as straight as can be, and there weren't many cars... Oh well. :)

Hmm... It seems to me that you weren't going fast enough if the cop was able to catch you...

Feh... You try out-running a cop in a Camry. A four-cylinder Camry at that! All of 120+ hamster power. :heh::heh::heh:

Try this one on for size. About 3 years ago I am driving through Georgia, the one state which everyone knows not to speed in, and I was going 60 mph through a 60 mph construction zone. Well there were these two cops sitting on the median with their brights on, so I covered my eyes as i drove by them because they were blinding me. Well as i was going by them i double checked my speed, because I am a worry wort, saw that i was fine and continued on my merry way. About 50 miles later, 5 miles from the Florida state line, I get pulled over by the cop who I had passed before. He claims that I was doing 78 in a 55 zone (the construction zone posted 60) and that it took him 50 miles to catch up with me. I told him that was impossible, i have had my cruise control set the entire time for the speed limit and lowered the speed in the construction zone. The cop then accused me of calling him a liar, which I said, I didnt. He then has me get out of the car, does a pat check for grenades in my pocket (NO JOKE) and then request to search my car. Since I have nothing to hide, and realize that this cop is sitting here trumping up not only my speed, but how long it took him to get me etc, I agreed. He spent 30 minutes tossing my car up and down, picks up a twig (a pine twig) and scrutinized it for a good five minutes to determine if it was marijuana. He then gave me the ticket and sent me on my way.

Knowing that this was completely illegal and wrong I contacted the solicitor for that county. After 6 attempts at reaching him he finally calls me back at 6 am and his response is Lt. Gunn (no joke again), why bubba is a good cop, I have known him all my life, he never would do anything wrong. I then recounted the story, and he said, "50 miles...it took him 50 miles to catch up with you when you were going the speed limit? That doesnt make sense, well you sound like a right nice fellow there, and being that you are in law school and such, I will do you a favor, i will lower it so that there are no points and nothing but a fine, but other than that you will have to fly back here for a court case." Talk about bull crap. The solicitor and the cop had been friends their whole lives! Called him by his first name, didnt even think the search was unreasonable. (apparently, having florida tags on a nice car with a younger driver equate to me being a drug courier!)

That was a bunch of crap. The only other ticket I got was in Florida and I was speeding, the cop told me he spotted my car about 3 miles away because of how shiny it was and my hubs. He then told me that he had the same car but got rid of it because he kept getting pulled over himself. I thought that was funny, apologized, and paid the ticket.

Moral of the story, Georgia is a corrupt backwater state which illegally tickets people for following their laws.

exactly what type of car do you have??

Actually, Georgia is the state to speed in. Or at least that's the concensus amongst my friends in Atlanta. Then again, it might just have something to do cops being bored and wanting to get a few easy bucks by busting out of state drivers - good chance of them not showing up in court. :heh:

I don't know but after watching mississippi burning, I've decided that there really is no real good reason to drive anywhere in the south, being from texas on east to virginia. Generally, I figure if I even have to go to the south, it'll be by plane and restricted to major cities.

Plus, what the hell is down there anyway? I was thinking that speeding through the south in my saab convertible, visiting the plantation mansions, might be fun, but from the comments here, I'm reminded that I'd probably get arrested for reckless driving going a mere 100 in a 55.

If you can't speed in the countryside where can you speed? I guess I'll stick to the Northwest.

I don't know, but after reading your post, I've decided that people from Los Angeles love to overgeneralize, and to form opinions based on movies.

I would have figured that statement would have come after watching deliverance. SOOUUUEEEYYYYY!

Sorry couldnt help it. Seriously though, the majority of the south is great, its just certain areas where you have to be careful in, while driving. You have to remember that the majority of folks who get a speeding ticket from out of town are just going to pay it because they cant spare the time or the money to actually show up in court. Thus, it pays for them to catch as many out of state speeders as they can. The real thing you want to check is whether there is reciprocity with your licensing state. If there isnt, so long as you dont go back to where you get the ticket, you are safe from losing your license for not paying the fine. (NOT THAT I AM ADVOCATING VIOLATIONING THE LAW) - you can actually lose your license even if you follow the rules! I paid a ticket on the last possible day, and it wasnt reported to my home state, so even though I hadnt violated any (more)laws my license was, unbeknownst to me, suspended. I didnt find that out for over a year, until I got the Georgia ticket. That led to even more problems since they tried to charge me to reinstate my license when it shouldhnt have been suspended, then refused to reinstate it because of the Georgia ticket, which was also paid. I ended up having to pay a reinstatement fee, plus late charges.

If I ever figure out the way, I am going to overthrow the damn DMV in every state, starting with California, then Pennsylvania, then Florida....the rest, will go when I feel like it. I hate DMV's.

when you get caught speeding you should always reply with something like "WoW, you must have been going really fast to catch up with me!" or "Hey! didn't I see you get your ass kicked on cops last night?" The police like that sort of thing :)
