Their extraordinary body paint, precisely what they eat (the anthropologists saw evidence of gardens from the air), how they construct their tent-like camp, their language, how their society operates - the life of these Amerindians remains a mystery.

'We did the overflight to show their houses, to show they are there, to show they exist,' said Brazilian uncontacted tribes expert José Carlos dos Reis Meirelles Junior. 'This is very important because there are some who doubt their existence.'

Meirelles, who despite once being shot in the shoulder by an arrow fired by another tribe campaigns to protect these peoples, believes this group's numbers are increasing, and pointed out how strong and healthy the people seemed.

But other uncontacted groups in the region, whose homes have been photographed from the air, are in severe danger from illegal logging in Peru and populations are being decimated.

its amazing that there still is tribes of people living not affected by modern man. we think of third world country's .but these people are or seem happy with life without contact of others. and i personal feel we should let them be.

But don't you think they have been affected now? I mean, a big metal "bird" just flew overhead. They are looking at it. We have now become part of thier culture, like it or not.

Yet if some guy tries to raise his tribe of kids/grandkids "uncontacted" in a basement in Austria, the world freaks out. :hihi:

They don't show it in the picture, but just a little ways down from that hut is a Starbuck's.

It seems pretty spectacular to me, but also unimaginable. I just figured there aren't enough places in the world for a group of folks to hide that haven't been in contact with "modern man" and still live off the land.

I think a singular metal bird sighting might spark some cave paintings, but not enough to really rattle their cages.

i read somewhere else that they carry on trades with other tribes who do have contact with modern society. they will even obtain modern items in these trades.

i think a neighboring tribe might actually run the aforementioned starbucks :P

I read that it was a helicopter that was flying overhead - probably even more of a disruption (due to the noise) than an airplane (and harder for them to describe, as it doesn't register as a "metal bird").

They're in protected "Ethno-Envromental" sanctuaries. Kind of like that movie "The Village".

I read an interesting story a few years ago about a waterfall being discovered in California. The article went on to say how there are many areas of the USA, including in California, that haven't been visited by humans in centuries, if ever.

This is a great big world, and we forget that sometimes.

I tried readin renov's comment - I really did. But my mind is baked from writing papers and I didn't sign onto G|A? to do more head work. Will try again in a few hours - maybe it'll be better then.

After reading all our comments, I figured it would just be a matter of time before some government a-hole in these country's, where these tribes are found, that a law will be passed taxing all their land and every spear they make. :(

Ah - ok, thanks Nija. It's intelligent thought - just horribly spelled.

I guess I should say, I did add a few words, but hopefully nothing to change, what I perceive to be, the message.

/also here to save you a bunch of money by switching to Geico

how many times does it have to be discussed about reno's grammer and spelling? I have just come to accept it, and its like that study they did taking out letters but we still understand the meaning. :)

I find his writing to be incomprehensible at times. There are a few mistakes in particular that can completely change the meaning of posts: are vs our.

Amazon Tribe
The Not-So-Lost Tribe
by Mike Krumboltz
June 23, 2008 06:09:40 PM

Even in an age when cynical sleuths can hyper-analyze stories for truth and accuracy, the occasional hoax still slips through the cracks. Such was the case with a so-called "lost Amazon tribe."

A few months ago, mainstream news outlets (including, ahem, Yahoo!) reported that a photographer had found a lost tribe of warriors near the Brazilian-Peruvian border. Photos of the tribe backed up his claim.

As it turns out, the story is only half true. The men in the photo are members of a tribe, but it certainly ain't "lost." In fact, as the photographer, José Carlos Meirelles, recently explained, authorities have known about this particular tribe since 1910. The photographer and the agency that released the pictures wanted to make it seem like they were members of a lost tribe in order to call attention to the dangers the logging industry may have on the group.

The photographer recently came clean, and news outlets, perhaps embarrassed at having been taken for a ride, have been slow to pick up the story. Now, the word is starting to spread and articles in the Buzz are picking up steam. Expect a lot more brutal truth in the coming days.

"ain't"

Alpo, do you have a link for this. I'd love to see which news agency allows their reporters to use ain't.

I use it, I adore it...couldn't go a day without it, but in my news... well, I don't want my news to use it.

While "ain't" is improper for common, habitual use, it is appropriate to use to add emphasis and catch attention. Just because your 5th grade teacher said there's never a reason to use "ain't" doesn't make it so.

...and a quick Google search shows that Mike Krumboltz is a writer employed by Yahoo.

I agree with what you said about ain't and thank you very much for your google skills. :)

Ain't sounds okay for the contraction "am not" otherwise it just sounds dumb as someone saying "I isn't"
