Which do you have and why?
I am trying to decide between the two. I don't use a microwave that much but Donnie seems to think we still need one. I don't want both. I think that the toaster oven would take care of everything that the microwave would do (minus popcorn, but I like mine from a stove top anyway).
I use my toaster oven so much more than my microwave, but I would say it is convenient to have both. I primarily use the microwave to reheat things like rice and pastas, and to defrost frozen foods.

I would not want to be without either. For some things, the microwave works much better - such as heating veggies, cooking corn-on-the-cob (wrapped in wax paper), heating many leftovers, speeding up thawing, etc. But the toaster oven is the appliance of choice for other things (in addition to toasting, of course) and even small baking needs (my wife will sometimes cook batches of 8 cookies or so from batter she has already mixed up).

I have both.
I like to reheat things in the micro and there's always popcorn.
I like toasting things like bread, corn dogs, pizza rolls, etc. in the oven.

i have both. the microwave reheats things much faster. the toaster oven is good for getting that crunch that makes some food better.

I only use my microwave for popcorn and heating liquids and melting butter. For everything else I use my nuclear powered toaster oven (Panasonic NB-G100P)

And not just a Toaster :)
I don't have a "Toaster Oven" I choose Microwave.
Although for some reason I read the topic as "Microsoft or Toaster Oven" I was kind of confused. Long day I guess..

Actually, I have a microwave and a CONVECTION oven.
For cooking food, the convection oven with its "fan bake" mode works a lot better than a regular ol' toaster oven. Plus, it can still act as a toaster oven if that's really what you want to do. :thumb:

I havnt had a microwave in almost 2 years now and havnt used one in about 3. I find using the toaster oven makes stuff taste better, and it takes just about the same time to reheat food as a microwave.

We dont' use the micro except for reheating a plate every now and then. I cook veggies either on the grill or on the stove. Butter is melted on the stove also. The only reason I have microwave popcorn is because I bought some from Mikey when he was trying scouts out last fall because I prefer stove top popped corn better than microwaved. The last microwave we bought was in 1998 and last summer started acting up - would turn on when I shut the door and no time was set, wouldn't cook on the "reheat" setting and defrosting became a forever deal. So, I stopped using it. It was huge (I could cook a 20 lb turkey in it) and I figure we could go a LOT smaller if we did buy one down the road. BUT, the toaster oven is something that I have never owned and I am wondering if it would fit into my kitchen better than a microwave oven does.
We have been eyeing this one (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000EWJLEU/ref=ord_cart_shr?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance) because the size and the rotisserie. The rotisserie is a bonus - I would use it a lot. I have the room - microwave is gone, we dumped it when we left Nellis.
I guess I just need to bite the bullet. :)

Fresh from a divorce :( I just bought my first new microwave in a while. It's a beasty (1600 watts) and it's used nightly to heat up every conceivable microwave dinner in the dregs of my freezer.

we only have a microwave. had a toaster oven but got rid of it.
a microwave is cheaper to run was one reason we tossed the toaster oven was, for child safety
they can get very hot outside and were worried are daughter would be burned by it when she was young!

I have both, and love heating things in the toaster oven rather than microwave, but will reheat soups, pastas, rice in the microwave along with defrosting.
I use the toaster oven for things that should happen in the oven, but since i'm cooking for one, fits in there, and heats/cooks faster.
And for space, I have a microwave over my stove with the fan built in.
