Quick questions guys
For those who have ever reserved a rental car using one of the travel portal sites (expedia, travelocity, etc), when you pick up the car do you have to show the actual credit card you used to pay for it? My mom is visiting later this month and has asked me to rent a car for her. She gave me her credit card number and I reserved it on expedia. Although the reservation does have ME as the driver, I'll be picking the car up before she arrives so I won't have her credit card with me when I pick the car up. Will there be a problem?

From what I can recall, they have only checked my license when I've picked up a car. However, I've often used Hertz #1 Gold, which always has a valid card on record.

no to using the same card . but you will have a problem if you don't have a card in your name .also they need her there for her drivers license . so she can be listed as a driver.
but to be 100% sure you can call a local branch of the rental company. not all rental companys have the same policy's on rentals .some will even accept cash i found out my last trip to Florida.
this shocked me as they alway wanted a credit card. at one time a friend went to rent a car at the local airport here.and was told they wouldn't take a debit credit card .it had to be a real visa or master card. (the later was a couple of years back and could of changed now ). just call your rental car company and ask.

I've been in the situation where I reserved a rental car but couldn't pick it up because I only had a debit card. This time I prepaid online through expedia with my mom's credit card. I'll be driving my mom around so I am listed as the only driver. The only problem is that my mom won't be there when I pick up the car. I guess I can call and find ot if that'll work.

We faced a similar situation recently. We don't have a credit card that we can use atm, but we needed to rent a car to go to Nebraska for my sister's graduation. My mom offered to put it on her card, so we reserved it online with her card. But my mom had to be the one to pick it up and she had to be the driver listed. Then because we knew Scott would be driving, she had to add him as a driver (additional $10/day). It worked, just was a hassle. So don't be surprised if that's the same way for you... :(

Debit cards have problems for other reasons I can't remember right now - so long as you have a credit card in your name, the name registered on advance, you should be fine.

so called them up. alamo requires a credit card at the time of pickup as they put a hefty hold on the credit card as security. so i wouldn't be able to pick up the car since I only have a debit card. I've resorted to reserving a zipcar which actually ended up costing the same.

thanks for the info guys.
