Over a year ago, I uploaded a bunch of pictures to CVS to have them printed out. The pharmacy is on the way home from where my wife works so its convenient to pick them up. Anyway, they screwed up this particular by either saying they never received it or something. I don't remember all the details now but I told them to cancel the order and I'm never getting pictures developed there again. They called me a couple weeks later telling us that our pictures were ready. I told them that I don't want them because they took too long to get them developed. End of story, or so I thought. . .

Fast forward to June 12, 2008. I'm at work back in the lab and I get a phone call from my wife. She tells me that she just received a call from some creepy guy saying he found some pictures that belonged to her in the dumpster behind CVS and that she could have them if she came to his house and paid him 10 bucks. My wife, understandably, was a little freaked out about it and called CVS. I guess they know who this guy is and have had to run him off from time to time. I told her that if CVS didn't do anything to file a report with the police.

CVS ended up calling the police and my wife had to go down to CVS to tell them what happened. The police told them there was nothing they could do because the dumpster is "public domain." WTF!

Now some guy has pictures of my daughter and wife because some incompetent fool at CVS failed to shred the pictures like they are supposed to do. It won't be too difficult to find my house if he wanted to considering the he has our phone number and pictures of what the house looks like.

I really hope it was just someone trying to make a quick buck.

this was from my 2nd home /forum and I'm like shocked to fine out how easy it be for someone to do this !

Sounds like you need to have a talk with the manager of the CVS store and then start moving up the chain to the district manager, regional manager, etc... Not sure if it would be worthwhile but you may even want to consider legal action.

This is why I'm glad that I print my own pictures from my digital camera.

And even when I do use the photo kiosk at my local Walmart, I never transfer the file from my memory stick to their hard drive.

they don't have to shread them, they can rip them in half. They can snip a corner or a third of the pic away and call it destroyed.

At WM, if you use thier drop off-three day service, whatever isn't picked up in 90 days goes back to the processer to be disposed of. If you use thier in house, it is up to the dept mgr to say how to destroy them (rip, snip, take a marker through the pic) At that point, they go into the dumpster.

When you fill out the info on the envelope, it's nice to have your number on there - so if something happens to the photos or for reminders. BUT I would never put your address on there.

Correction: Sounds like whoever wrote that story needs to have a talk with the manager....

(The style makes if obvious that you were addressing the wrong person. ;) )

Lately reno's typing has improved tenfold. :D

Hope you get some resolution reno. I, too, would have a word with a manager.
