Here in Indy, grilled corn, dipped in butter and covered in pepper is quite popular (especially at the State Fair).

I miss grits. I'll likely be eating a good amount of grits this summer when I'm back home, in order to make up for lost time out here in the land of no-grits.

I don't miss grits. They're easy to find next to the oatmeal at the grocery, even up in Yankee country!
Grits,
Corn chips
Tortillas and the burritos, tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, and fajitas that they make possible.
cornbread
posole
Hush Puppies
popcorn
succotash
corn dogs

Hah, all this time I never knew that hominy was corn. DUH!
And I love grits. Oh, and grilled corn on the cob too. Popular at the fair in San Diego, also.

Heh.. yup.
Honestly, I don't like "hominy" (which is different from grits)... it just don't taste right to me.
I do love creamed corn though... truly goodness! Corn on the Cob is the bomb diggy too.

Uh, not THAT different. Grits is just hominy that's been dried out and then crushed into powder.

There's grits and there's hominy grits. They are a bit different.

Hominy is much different. Trust me.
I don't like the corn in "hominy" form. But I do like Grits.

hominy These are hulled corn kernels that have been stripped of their bran and germ. Southern cooks usually boil whole or ground hominy until it's tender, and then they serve it in much the same way that Northern cooks would serve potatoes. Varieties include lye hominy, which is made by soaking corn kernels in a weak lye bath, and pearl hominy, which is made by crushing corn kernels mechanically. White hominy is made from white corn kernels, and the sweeter yellow hominy is made from yellow. Samp is coarsely ground or broken hominy, while hominy grits are more finely ground. You can buy hominy canned or dried.

hominy grits This Southern staple is made from hominy or plain corn that's been ground until it has the consistency of coarse sand. It's used as a side dish, a breakfast cereal, or as an ingredient in baked goods. Varieties include quick-cooking grits and instant grits.
Trust me.. "Hominy Grits" taste NOTHING like "hominy" corn. The first time I had hominy corn, I ended up spitting it out. :puke:

Well, of course they don't TASTE the same! I'm just saying, to make grits you generally start with hominy, and process it into dry grits powder. So they AREN'T that different, much like a raw egg and a french omelette AREN'T that different, but certainly don't taste the same.

I'm with a lot of you about corn on the cob and things like corn flakes & other cereal. Not a big fan of corn tortillas. But probably my 2 favorite corn dishes I've had at restaurants. One was at a bbq place. Corn muffins with corn kernels in them. So so very good. The other is ... actually, another bbq place. LOL
Cheesy Corn Bake:
* 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
* 4 teaspoons flour
* 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
* 3/4 cup milk
* 1 1/2 cups sharp American cheese, shredded
* 1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, cut up
* 3 (10 ounce) packages frozen whole kernel corn, thawed
* 3 ounces diced ham
Directions
1. Melt butter; stir in flour and garlic powder.
2. Add milk; cook & stir over medium heat.
3. Heat until thick and bubbly; stir in cheeses. Cook/stir over low heat until cheeses melt; stir in corn & ham.
4. Bake in 2 qt casserole for 45 minutes at 350.
One of the best, if not THE best, side dishes I've ever had. Not very weight friendly but damn good. lol

I thought the same thing when I found out it was mayo, but I had already had it a few times and was hooked on its deliciousness

Amongst my group of friends we have a similar grilled corn receipe. Substitute the pepper for grated cheese (Parmesan usually) and minced garlic mixed with the butter. Spread the garlic butter one thickly, sprinkle large amounts of cheese, reattach husk, cook over low flame, turning every 15 minutes for 45 minutes to an hour.
Absolute awesomeness. :lick:

Come on Zippy...
To the palate, grits are much different than whole hominy corn. Just because it is made from the same raw material doesn't make it the same.
Just as a French fry is not the same as mashed potatoes.. yet they both are "potatoes".
The taste of hominy doesn't equate to the taste of hominy grits. Have you ever eaten Hominy Zippy? Food is all about presentation and taste, and "hominy" just ain't cuttin' it in my book. :hmm:
