View Full Version : regarding cars and resale value
i was discussing with some co-workers today...i'm pretty sure that the only thing with a high resale value is a bus pass
that's my commentary on current gas prices. now back to your normal programming...

Are you kidding? People are paying $7k for 12-year-old Geo Metros that could be had for under a grand just a couple years ago. I love entrepreneurs. (http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/wayoflife/05/20/geo.metro/)

Let's see who is the first automaker to be smart enough to (re) launch an early 80s type car with:
- a small 4 cyl. engine < 100hp
- no air conditioning
- no power steering, brakes, windows, mirrors, etc
- no automatic transmission
- no traction control, anti-lock brakes, multiple airbags, crash sensors, stability control, or all wheel drive
That's what's killing the mileage these days. Drop all of the excess weight and whoa! You have a high mileage CHEAP car. With today's engine technology & *without* today's driving "necessities", you'll EASILY get a 40-60MPG car that doesn't cost $40k.

And a 1 star safety rating.
I saw an article the other day on CNN that was discussing individuals who were not getting rid of their SUV's. One of the guys is actually purchasing SUV's and pickups on the cheap and selling them in South America, where demand is high, for an astounding profit. They gave the details of a recent transaction where he purchased 2 F150's for $9k each, paid $2.2k for each to be shipped to S. America and sold each of them for $18k.

now cars last longer . but you can't repair them yourself any more.
use to be by the time a car had 60 or 70 thousand miles on it. you were calling for the happy hooker to haul them away. now they get 150,000 miles or more on them and you pay the dealer to repair them . one reason being the same parts break you just cant see them with all the emission extras we have to have to save the environment. that we burn up energy to make and then worry about how to safely dispose of. and best of all most of these cars are made over sea or across the border. were they cant afford to buy these same cars. or wont buy them because there not to there liking. and we wonder why were all loosing are jobs :( but we have to save the environment.

I had a '78 Buick Skyhawk, the sister to the Monza. It had no air and a stick shift, manual windows. It had a 231 V6. I don't remember the horsepower. It was a blast to drive.
