Just felt some good shaking. Must be a quake nearby. About 11:45am in Pacific Beach. No information yet. Some nice back and forth shaking. USGS shows a preliminary 5.8 near Chino Hills which is east of LA. http://quake.usgs.gov/recenteqs/Maps/118-34.html

Great now I have the "shake rattle and roll" song stuck in my head.

i've always wanted to feel what an earthquake feels like. not a huge one that could kill me. just a nice breezy one like a 5.8 =)

Freaks me out cause once you start moving you don't know how bad it'll be till after it stops. I was in a 12-story building and we got swaying pretty good. There were some guys on a window-washer type of scaffold above me...they got down to the ground in a hurry and were still on the ground 20 minutes later when I left.

Yup, felt it too. Found the same info on quake.usgs.gov. Cool that others felt it. I thought at first that my mind was playing tricks on me.

I am over 100 miles away from the quake and felt it pretty good. Being higher up also increases how much motion you feel. Downtown LA high rises must have been rocking pretty good.

Felt it in El Segundo, in our 13th floor. It shook us up quite a bit, but doesn't seem to be any damage.

i had to add this. i just talked to a friend in orange county on the cell. he said it was like they put a quarter in the box .by the side of the bed in a cheap hotel. said it was a hell of a ride :)

Well the one we felt in St. Louis a few months back was one heck of an eye opener and it was over 100 miles away.

Damn earthquake woke me up. I was napping. Like a true Californian though I got in a doorway within a second or two.

Looks like they lowered it a bit to 5.4. Two aftershocks over 3.0 so far. 3.8 at 11:51 and 3.6 at 1:40. Just a fun roller- nothing serious.

I lived in California for 7+ years, in SD and don't remember a single Earthquake. Some happened while I was on the ship, others while underway, sometimes I was supposedly home, or maybe sleeping at the time. But never felt a single earth quake. :(

i was in a doorway, some coworkers were under the desk.

this was definitely the strongest one i felt, but the scariest was still that 6.0 up near Cambria a few years back. I was on the 31st floor of the Universal tower when that one hit...building was swaying and i was getting dizzy.

If youi are going to do an earthquake, this was the good kind to have. I see China had another one in the same place as the one which killed what was it- 70,000 people? This was 6.0 while the other was 7.9. Going from a 6.0 to a 7.0 is an increase of ten times the force. That little one we had was nothing.

Well, since the fault is a transform boundary we probably won't end up in the sea, but maybe an island off the coast of Oregon or Washington.

How ya doing, Nap.

Move to Japan. We get them every week. I have been here 2 months and I have felt ones from a 7.1 to dinky ones (2.0 or so) that barely register. I think the worse was a 6.8, not just because of magnitude but because it was in the middle of the night when I was sound asleep. I woke and was like WTF? Until I realized that I was only about 5 seconds into a 40 second long earthquake, so I made a beeline for the door. It is a little disturbing to be woken up like that. :)

Check out usgs.gov if you want to see a bunch of stats and history on earthquakes.
