Bulletproof convenience stores, liquor stores on every block, and American cars as far as the eye can see.

Driving south of 8 mile road was an interesting experience! I loved to visit the Renaissance Center but I was terrified of the outside elevator!
<.<
A Ghetto-fabulous city full of fun-loving criminals and animal abusers.
Have fun getting shot at! :wavey:

it sucks that it's in our state. it's like having someone form an opinion of a human body after having only seen an armpit.

I've never been but if someone says Detroit, I think about Robocop and pretty much I'm not so inclined to visit.

ford field and comerica park are tremendous places to take in a game.
The US military should use it for target practice.

The city of Detroit... not exactly a tourist destination unless you're a sports fan. Lions, Tigers & Red Wings all play downtown (Pistons are out in the 'burbs).
But in general - the entire metro Detroit area - I love it here. It's a great place to live.

Just don't venture too far out on the East side of Detroit, especially after dark.
Honestly, there are parts over there that are VERY scary to say the least.

Jack was sitting on the plane when a guy took the seat beside him. The guy was an emotional wreck, pale, hands shaking, moaning in fear. "What's the matter?" Jack asked.
"I've been transferred to Detroit, there's crazy people there. They've got lots of shootings, gangs, race riots, drugs, poor public schools, and the highest crime rate."
Jack replied, "I've lived in Detroit all my life. It's not as bad as the media says. Find a nice home, go to work, mind your own business, enroll your kids in a nice private school. It's as safe a place as anywhere in the world."
The guy relaxed and stopped shaking and said, "Oh, thank you. I've been worried to death. But if you live there and say it's OK, I'll take your word for it. What do you do for a living?"
"Me?" said Jack. "I'm a tail gunner on a Budweiser truck."

Cheapie is right. B-more has way better food. Detroit is more dangerous and more corrupt but that is not to say that B-more is a good place to live unless you live in one of the few "safer" areas in town (e.g. Fed Hill, Canton, Fell's Pt, Little Italy, etc...). My grandmother lives in one of the very close suburbs of Detroit and she has not been to Detroit in 25+ years. She refuses to go there!

I was just about to! When you compare the recent leadership of the two cities (Kwame and Martin O'Malley) you can see that Detroit also has a much more corrupt leader. O'Malley had tons of problems but they were swept under the rug by the politicians and newspapers that wanted him to be Gov. Kwame has not been so lucky. He has been so blatant with his disregard for all laws that there was almost no way he could have covered it all up. Even still, some people in Detroit love the guy and think he is getting the shaft! :disa:
All that being said, I would live in B-more (and I have!) any day before I would live in Detroit.
