Kind of amusing. Thought it'd make people smile for the day.

The doors open out like the wings of a seagull... hence they are called "gullwing" doors. Deloreans back in the day had them. Kinda like Kleenex versus Tissue. :D

I think being in a garage would be even worse!
That scene from rocket man comes to mind...

and to DF's post: I think that's hilarious that those doors are on an Accord.

The one cool thing I see about it is that it would make a great tailgate party if it rained! :dinner:

Despite the common misconception that the gull-wing doors are mere stylistic affectations, the design is a very practical one. The advantage is that when properly designed and counterbalanced (for example, the De Lorean), they require little side-clearance to open (about 27.5 cm, or 11" in the De Lorean[1]) and allow much better entrance/egress than conventional doors. This is especially important for vehicles like the De Lorean whose width would make conventional doors awkward to use when the car is in a conventional urban parking space. The most obvious downside to having gull-wing doors is that, should the car roll over, exit would be impossible.

A Volvo concept car (Volvo YCC) that was designed by and for women had gull-wing doors. The reason was that they make it easier to lift shopping bags or children into the car.

I'm guessing that the accord's gullwing doors aren't properly designed or counterbalanced that it won't help with the clearance on the side...

and yikes! how about gullwings on an suv and have it roll over. scary.

and I still don't buy that the gullwings will help with shopping bags and children... and i challenge any woman to prove me wrong :wavey2: :hehehmm:

Regarding clearance, I think you're right. The reason is easy to understand if you think about it. It's not so much the actual door that's the problem, but rather how you install it. It's simply a matter of where the axis of rotation is for the gullwing door. As you can see from the pic of the Delorean, the hinge is much closer to the center of the roof, which means, when opened, the tip of the door would rise at a much steeper angle. On the other hand when you add gullwing doors to a conventional car, like the accord, the hinge is near the edge of the car requiring the door tip to swing far outward first, then up. Looking at the delorean, I feel it may actually need less clearance than a regular door when parked.

You've all prob seen this already, but it's most likely the most convenient car door that exists.
