No, not mine. Last week I got a call from someone I used to work with. They were getting married this past Friday and whomever they were trying to get to take pictures for them fell through and was wondering if I could do it. They heard from somebody else that I took pictures. I told them that I had never done this sort of thing "Well, I know you can do a better job than just one of those disposable cameras would do!" I agreed to take it on- good practice and a chance to see if it is really something I may want to do. It is one of the few decent paying ways to make money from photography. I am concerned about the amount of work involved (both in shooting- some in advance, others at the actual wedding plus the editing all the shots and then what- do an album for them? Try to get them to order prints from me? What to charge (they said they would pay me but we actually have not discussed any money- I have no idea what to charge or what they were figuring on- as my first time I am sure I should be discounted).

Anyhow, things went pretty well. I took over 450 shots which I am presently working through. It was outdoors down at the Mission Bay Marina. I used my medium range zoom lens (18- 135mm- equal to about a 24- 200mm lens- the range of it was perfect) and an external flash unit. I had extra memory cards and an extra battery for the camera but not extra batteries for the flash. After the ceremony I had them outside and was trying to get some shots with the boats and the sun going down behind them when the batteries on the flash gave out. I didn't say anything. The bride's brother was taking some pictures too (I was expecting to be the only one, but that was fine). The best picture I got there was actually a coinsidence- his flash went off at the same time I took my shot so it had enough light. Afer that I snuck out to find new batteries. Found some about a block away fortunately! This is right next to Sea World so there are not a lot of shops nearby. Found some at a fishing gear store.

You get the first look. I still have quite a few to edit (even after deleting the not-good-enough ones on my computer). I probably won't try to contact them until I get them finished and see what they say. I don't know what they want from me- a CD to either print themselves or preferable to order through me or a set of prints for them to look at and see which ones they want more of (standard size prints). Still need to discuss that. If there is ever a next time, I will have a better idea of what to expect anyways.

A few more:
One of their personal symbolic gestures was to both pour sands of different colors (purple and white were their colors) into a single glass to show how they can both become one and yet stay different.

Zoomed in for a close-up on that-as I said, the zoom seemed to be perfect for the job:

"I now pronounce you Man and Wife. You may kiss the bride!"

One thing which would restrict me in doing more weddings (if I went that way) is that I do not own a car and have not driven in probably fifteen or twenty years. I do have a license for an ID. I ride my bike everywhere. This was only a few miles from my home.

Funny, I didn't notice a ring in that picture.
