Jerry Wexler (http://redkelly.blogspot.com/2008/08/wilson-pickett-soul-dance-number-three.html) coined the term "rhythm and blues (http://apnews.myway.com//article/20080815/D92IU9JG0.html)" while working as a writer for Billboard magazine in the late '40s.

He was the producer's producer, and the late Ahmet Ertegun's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahmet_Erteg%C3%BCn) partner at Atlantic Records.

Solomon Burke (http://www.thekingsolomonburke.com/biography/biography.html) said:
"Jerry Wexler didn't change the sound of America, he put the sound to the public. He opened the doors and windows to the radio stations ... and made everybody listen."
