The expiration dates on ink cartridges are not a scam. Cartridges have a shelf life: Leave them sitting around too long and all sorts of things can go wrong—the colorants can come out of suspension, leading to clogged nozzles; the adhesive that holds the case together can get dissolved into the ink, destroying the ink quality; and for cartridges that include the nozzles in the cartridge, the nozzles can get irretrievably clogged. As with milk, the dates are purposely conservative, so cartridges are usually good for far longer than the expiration dates indicate. That's why some people have erroneously come to the conclusion that it's a scam.

i figure most will be aware about ink cartages and shelf life .but some may think it was just bull.
this why i wont buy bargain bin ink cartages for my printers. unless im sure that i use them by the date or one month from the date on the carton.even if there like 50 % off at a store. and i have seen them take mass mark downs on cartages at Officemax and Office Depot before . i beleave they can't but not sure. if they can return out dated cartages to the manufacture for credit.
