Bayfair brought the speed boat races to Mission Bay with many different classes of boats racing each other. When things are going by you very fast, you want to use a technique known as "panning"- following along with the object while you click the shutter. If you get it right, the subject is clearer while the background blurs. These are some of the best panning shots I have ever taken. The lens has a vibration reduction feature which helps control camera shake and keep the subject in better focus. This becomes more important as your lens gets longer since every little movement is magnified. I used my 70- 300mm lens which would be equal to a 450mm lens on a full frame camera. These are only minimally edited.
