For those with iPhone 3G handsets, I have a question:

A friend of mine has an iPhone 3G, but they forgot their password -- and now the phone indicates that it's disabled. I know that we can do the restore (hold down Home while plugging it into a computer), and I also know this will wipe all settings from the phone. I'm wondering whether or not the contacts are stored on the SIM card, or if they'll be wiped along with the contents on the phone (we don't have access to the original computer he synced it on at the moment).

If I remember correctly, the contacts CAN be stored on the SIM card, but aren't by default.

However, I think every time the phone is plugged into her computer, it's backed up. After you restore it, then you'll be able to restore from backup. Of course, if she can't remember the password and the password was on the backup, she's screwed.

Do you know what firmware she's on? There was a security hole in one of them. Here it is: http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archive/2008/08/27/apple-iphone-security-hole.aspx

Otherwise, there's only 10,000 choices. She remember ANY of it? :)

After 5 times, it locks you out...... at least that's what has happened on this one..... presuming that's what this lock is.

EDIT: I restored the phone, and got things working again for them. Everything's good to go.
