Those of you who travel internationally, how do you handle the different voltages when you have to use your computer, electronics, cell phones abroad?

Any converters you can recommend that will cover my computer, dslr camera, and cell phone? The less converters, the better. Are there any good multi device universal converters or something like that?

Most of your consumer electronics will handle the voltage range. Nowadays, the only things that need a voltage converter are items that generate heat, such as a blow dryer. I've traveled abroad with my laptop, DS Lite, cellphone, camera, etc, and never had a problem. Just check the label, which will most likely say something like 110v-220v. You will need a converter for the plug, so figure out what country & plug configuration you'll need. Also, you might want to bring a surge protector. On our last vacation, the island was notorious for power spikes, so it came in handy.

As avlena said, most devices nowadays are "free-voltage." Just look at your device's power adaptor and if it says something like "Input: 100-240V" that means it'll be okay to plug it into most outlets in most countries. So the only issue you'll have is the shape of the actual power outlet. Most electronics stores will carry "travel kits" which have adaptors that will accomodate most prong shapes. Some even have a small down-convertor for electronics that aren't "free-voltage."

I landed at Heathrow just under 4 hours ago. As everyone else said, almost all modern electronic power supplies can handle a range of voltages and cycles (Hz). Unless you're going somewhere really exotic, a simple converter should be fine. If you are taking multiple devices, it might be worth it to take a small power strip/surge protector so you can power them all with a single converter.

so... no one has asked the obvious question - where are you going? :-) Exciting vacation I hope!
