I had a power failure, when I turned the computer back on, the fan is loud. When I turn it on, I see something new, says something like "Could not load driver software" I went into Device Manager and there is a yellow explanation point showing under "System Devices" the explanation point is at, "intel management engine interface" It also says, "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
I tried deleting it and rebooting, still have the explanation point, I turned off the computer and went into "System Setup" and reset the system startup. Gateway said I could burn out the motherboard with the fan running like this, is that true? Any suggestions what to do before I pack it up and ship it back?
It's a Gateway running Vista, Quad core Q6600 2.4ghz and still under warranty, but I need to send it in at my expense and worse,be without it for about 3 weeks.

Definetly the above I talke about, "Intel® Management Engine Interface" is my problem, I found out it provides thermal management for Intel® Desktop Boards.

sounds like a cpu fan or chip fan on the mb is going out, not that rare to happen. have you dusted they system lately .the biggest error people do is blow compressed air to get rid of dust bunnys .but dont put a stopper of some kind into the cooling fans when doing this .and it burns the bearings out in them by letting them spin beyond there design spin speed.
the good news here is these fans can be replace semi cheaply.

...have you dusted they system lately... I just happened to open the case 3 days ago because the breather holes had dust, there really wasn't much dust inside. I unplugged it, discharged myself and vacuumed with an all plastic vacuum. I blew nothing and I was careful. It ran fine for three days until this evening when the trouble began.

I've used this procedure with great success on several different fans:
