I bought a used 4 bay case last summer which houses (4) 3.5" IDE hard drives. It currently has three pairs of firewire ports. Each of the enclosures within the case are swappable. The cables are routed to one another and then end at the final port and then to the computer.
Recently, I can't get a signal from two pairs of the firewire ports. I believe they are defective. So I am considering converting two of the ports to UBS 2.0. I have a USB enclosure which I can use the electronics from to integrate into this case.
My question: Can I have a master and a slave IDE hard drive to a USB port using one ribbon cable? Will Windows identify both drives? Or will I require two separate USB ports each configured to master?
