Playstation 2 memory card question

Well, I was hoping someone knows something about ps2's and memory card compatiblilty with psone games. I tried saving a game of gran turismo 2 on my ps2 with the 8MB card. But it wouldn't. Do I need to get a psone memory card in order to save psone games on a ps2?

I think i read that you can only save PSone games on PSone memory cards.

Ok, I know I posted this before, but here we go again...

When using a PS2, playing a PS2 game, you can only use PS2 mem cards. Simple enough. When using PS2, playing PS1 games, you can read off both PS1 and PS2 cards, but only write save game files to a PS1 card. But, you can back up all your PS1 data on your PS2 card. I do this, because my PS1 card has lost my data before... I fricken hate that...
