Florida did their part in the afternoon matinee game by defeating #1 and then unbeaten Alabama 31-20 and Oklahoma sealed their bid in the nightcap by whipping Missouri 62-21. The polls are not out yet, but it certainly looks like Florida vs. Oklahoma for the National Title game. Florida had better watch out for that OU defense. Oh yeah, they can score a bunch of points too. Oklahoma was held to less than fifty only three times. The last time they scored less than sixty was in October.

How about USC vs Texas in the #2 bowl game this year? Which game is that? Fiesta? I think USC can beat Texas.

OU better put some mud wheels on that schooner... cause, the gators are comin' out the swamp. :heh:

USC will be playing Penn State in the Rose Bowl due to the BCS tie-ins with the Pac 10 and Big 10 champions.

The Fiesta Bowl will likely have two at-large teams since Oklahoma will almost definitely end up in the big game now. It's likely they'd select Texas and people are suggesting Ohio State as well.

I think that would be a good game.

I know it is Non-BCS but I really wanted to see Boise State vs. Ball State, but Ball State was too chicken.

Who knows if it will be Oklahoma-Florida or Oklahoma-Texas yet. I guess we'll see at 7 CST.

Why would that be a dream BCS matchup? I don't know much about college ball so I am genuinely interested. Are OU and Florida big rivals?

No and they never met in any bowl game before but both teams are good this year so we are hoping for a good game.

Well they are also hoping that Bradford wins the Heisman so it will be Last years Heisman winner against this years Heisman winner, in the QB Position, which would be interesting.

Doesn't look like that will happen: http://www.heisman.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/120606aab.html

Smith, Quinn, McFadden Named Heisman Finalists
The winner will be announced Saturday night in New York.

Ohio State's Troy Smith and Notre Dame's Brady Quinn and Arkansas' Darren McFadden were selected as finalists for the Heisman Trophy.

Dec. 6, 2006

NEW YORK (AP) -Ohio State's Troy Smith and Notre Dame's Brady Quinn were selected as finalists for the Heisman Trophy on Wednesday, along with Arkansas running back Darren McFadden.

Smith is the heavy favorite to win the award Saturday night in New York. The senior quarterback entered the season with plenty of Heisman hype and then backed it up with brilliant play for the unbeaten Buckeyes.

Smith is fourth in the nation in passer rating (167.9) and has thrown for 2,507 yards and 30 touchdowns with only five interceptions, leading Ohio State to the national title game against Florida on Jan. 8 in Glendale, Ariz.

Quinn, the senior quarterback, was fourth in Heisman voting last season and has thrown 35 touchdown passes in 2006. McFadden, a sophomore, scored 16 touchdowns and led Arkansas to the Southeastern Conference title game.

Smith grabbed the lead in the Heisman race early this season. In Ohio State's first No. 1 vs. No. 2 game of the season, he threw for 269 yards and two scores against Texas in September. He was even better in the Buckeyes' second 1-2 game, throwing for 316 yards and four touchdowns in the regular-season finale against Michigan.

Smith is trying to become the sixth player from Ohio State to win the Heisman and first since running back Eddie George in 1995. It would be the seventh time a Buckeye came away with the award. Ohio State's Archie Griffin is the only two-time Heisman winner.

If Quinn pulls the upset, he'd be the eighth player from Notre Dame to win and would break a tie with USC as the school with the most. Tim Brown was the last Fighting Irish player, taking home the trophy in 1987.

Smith or Quinn could snap a string of three consecutive years when a junior has won the Heisman. USC quarterback Carson Palmer was the last senior to win it.

Last season, Reggie Bush was the third consecutive junior to win the award and third USC player in four years.

Regardless of who wins, it won't be a Southern California player for the first time in three years. Matt Leinart won it the year before Bush.

Quinn holds 30 Notre Dame records. He has thrown for 3,278 yards and only five interceptions this season, leading the Fighting Irish to a 10-2 record and a berth in the Sugar Bowl.

McFadden's season started slowly. He injured his foot in a bar fight in July and began the season hobbled. When he was healthy, he was the focal point of the SEC's biggest surprise team. He finished the regular season with 1,558 yards rushing.

The bowl matchups:
Florida, Oklahoma to play for BCS title
Texas to face Ohio State in Fiesta Bowl
Penn State, USC square off in Rose Bowl
Tide meets unbeaten Utah in Sugar Bowl
Cincinnati, Hokies meet in Orange Bowl
Texas Tech, Mississippi for Cotton Bowl

Yeah, Bradford might be near Superman, but he isn't a time traveler Zippy, So I don't think he will go back and win the 2006 Heisman race :) "Dec. 6, 2006"

OLD OLD OLD Article! :)

The Heisman Finalists will be Bradford, McCoy, Tebow, Harrell, and maybe someone like Crabtree.

:stupid:

I think this is as far from a dream matchup as possible. Well, maybe OSU losing to FLA again would be worse. If OU's bowl game turns out like the ones in the recent past, just give FLA the championship now.

My prediction = FLA Championship again, unless TX is in it and then I predict TX to win it.

I wouldn't really call them chicken. Boise St proposed the game but it was to be played on their home field in Boise. Convenient huh?

It all turned out to be a moot point since Ball St lost to Buffalo in the MAC championship game.

My Prediction = Florida gets Stomped. Whether they score points or not. This isn't Oklahoma of years past.

Last year they were supposed to demolish WVU and WVU stomped them a new mud hole. This is close to the Oklahoma of last year and it is definitely the Stoops of last year. They will get stomped. Once again, a NC not worth watching.

oh come on. i think it's an intriguing match up. the only prob might be that oklahoma hasn't seen the defense in the big 12 that the gators will bring.

I think they haven't seen the speed or the defense that FLA will bring. Plus, they have lost their last 4 BCS bowls including one, 2007's Fiesta bowl, to a non-BCS conf team, Boise St.

I guess we'll see. But adding in 4 BCS games is kind of silly, since most (read almost all) were only there for one of them. Last year, and they were all Freshman.

I count 123 people on their roster and 44 people are juniors or seniors in elligibility. So, I guess your "almost all" argument is full of water since ~36% have used up 3 or more years of eligibility. This isn't even taking into account redshirts. BTW - I grabbed this data off of espn's site.

Also, your argument has no relevance to the point I was trying to make. The fact that Stoops and crew cannot win the big one was more my point vice the players not being up for the challenge. If your team is consistently being out coached in the big games then your team is at a major disadvantage. See Don Nehlen. He had big problems in bowl games. His teams went to many bowl games and got beat by teams with less talent or got blown out by equally talented teams.

I think the Sooners stand a good chance in this one, even with their recent bowl game failures.

The key lies in their big, strong, and extremely athletic defensive front. If you look back to the 2008 Capital One Bowl where Florida was heavily favored, Michigan's front caused havoc in the back field early and often...leaving Tebow with a facemask full of grass many times.

If Oklahoma can do the same, I think it will be quite a ballgame.

From what I've seen this year, Florida's defense is pretty darn good so it will also be important for Oklahoma to establish a few lengthy drives to try and wear down the Gators.

See- strong opinions on both sides. That should mean a good matchup. If everybody was agreeign on the outcome then it would probably be a boring game.

If only that (i.e. disagreement = a good game) were true. The Gators, and I strongly dislike them, are going to kill OU. This is anything but a dream BCS matchup.

OU hasn't seen a defense on par with UF for a while now. They've been putting up an incredible amount of points, but there are high school defenses out there that are better than some of the Big 12 defenses. Add to that the fact that they will have a hard time shutting down the Florida offense and you have the possibility of a blowout. Just take a look at the defensive rankings of each team's opponents.

Avg Opponent D Rank
Oklahoma - 77.3
Florida - 27.9

Opponents with Rank over 60 (bottom half of college D's)
Oklahoma - 9
Florida - 1

Opponents with Rank over 100 (bottom 20% of college D's)
Oklahoma - 4
Florida - 0

Also, FWIW, Oklahoma put up 60 in their last 5 and scored 58 the game prior to that. During that stretch, the rank of the D's they faced were 118, 66, 114, 72, 87, 100. Now obviously these rankings take into account that they played Oklahoma, but none are even close to being decent with the exception of Nebraska (66) and maybe Texas Tech (72).

To put these numbers into perspective, consider that Nebraska gave up 35 to VT, their highest scoring output of the season, at Nebraska. VT has the 89th ranked scoring offense and the 107th ranked total offense and only scored 30 in one other game all season.

I guess OU didn't put those mud wheels on the schooner and as predicted, they bogged down and fell victim to that nasty reptile. :heh:

That's what you thought made it unwatchable?

Not the announcers practically sucking Bradfords' and Tebows' Richard the entire game.

I mean seriously guys, your jaws must be hurting from the massive amounts of nursing on their (collective) third leg.

You got last year's Heisman winner vs This Year's winner. It was not like they were gonna focus on anyone else unless someone else had a "breakout" performance (which didn't happen...)

The key point in the game was the Florida stop of OU twice inside the ten yardline- in particular that goal-line stand. If OU had scored, Florida would have had troubles catching back up. OU had momentum at that point and were keeping Fla pretty much in check.

Fox has been terrible broadcasting all of the bowl games. Poor camera angles, lack of replays, commentators that don't know the rules and can't get players names correct. I'm definitely not disappointed that they didn't get the next contract to broadcast games.

Like calling an entire set of downs wrong? :) They were calling it 3rd down on Second Down, etc. until it got to fourth, then they just went on like nothing had happened, after they jumped off Tebow's nuts for a second. They loved them some Tim Tebow.
