I've been running SCSI for awhile now, but in combination with IDE. I'd like to make the full jump to SCSI, but I need to get some recommendations on the CD/DVD end.

My current setup is an Adaptec 39160.
Channel A has a Quantum Atlas 10K LVD, U160, and also a pair of IBM 9.1G U2W LVD drives (running software RAID under win2k). So the chain is running a U2W speed.

Channel B has a Ricoh MP6200S CD-RW (slow!), an Exabyte 8505 Tape Backup unit, and a HP 32x CD.

I'm trying to make it cost effective, so i'm trying to decide what components to buy. Any recommendations? i'll probably keep the 32x, as it's fairly fast, and there don't seem to be many drives faster than 40x. I was looking at a Pioneer DVD-304s (10x/40x), and a toshiba SD-M1401-S (12x/40x), for which there's only a $15 difference (but the pioneer does have that slot load!).Is the speed noticable?

I haven't really looked much a CD-R/RW yet, who makes good ones (besides the obvious Plextor brand)?

Oh yeah, and if I can really swing it, I might move to an Adaptec 3400s.

go with the pioneer for dvd scis or the plextor 40x for cd. Can't really get any better than that, mmm scsi.
