I'll break it down for you. High school students print out your license plate number, put it on a car that looks like yours and drive past the speed camera. Days letter you get a ticket. They do it as a prank and revenge. Maryland makes me so proud.

Wow, that's great... I hope they keep it up.
There's really so many things wrong with speed cameras, I like that this is a flaw that throws the whole program into question.

In my state doing that is at least one arrestable misdemeanor, and probably 2 or 3. Lucky for them if they're still minors, cause getting a criminal record for a prank is kind of silly.

I agree that there are problems with those cameras, but there is a better way than these pranks. I'm with Daedalus, kind of silly. And those cameras have caused people to be more cautious at intersections here in Ca.

Its a prank, but you don't actually have to pay it. At least you shouldn't. The point of the "Driver Photo" is to make sure it's you in the car, and that it's your car. So technically the person should be able to go to court and get it thrown out. And also making the judge question Cameras more as well.
Edit: Or maybe thats not how it is in Maryland, as the story does say its just mailed to the Owner. I know the red light cameras in Cali took a picture of the Driver and mailed that as proof that you got the ticket.

My wife has been caught with the speed cameras and they do not take the picture of the driver. It's the rear of the car. A closer shot of bumper and plate. Then a legible-ish reading of the tag number. I can totally see why a printed glossy photo of another tag number would be accepted as genuine.
That is school is on the top 100 high schools in the nation but in recent years it has gone down. The students there have been in trouble underage drinking, fighting and drugs. Being a top 100 school though they just get a slap on the wrist and go on their merry snobby ways.
The school is on my way home.

That should be posted on the refrigerator.

Really? Because as far as I've seen, the light is yellow, slam the gas and hope there isn't a camera. Or they speed up, notice there is a camera and slam their breaks and hope the guy behind them doesn't hit them.

Yeap these red light cameras cause more rear-ended accidents. I saw one yesterday on the way home from work at an intersection near my house.

Maybe I'm not in the right area, I guess. I see the flashes going off periodically, but the cameras have reduced some craziness in the North County area where I am.

The cameras are supposed to take pictures of the front and back of the car. If your face is not visable in the photo, you can fight it and get the photo kicked out. It's the whole innocent until proved guilty. Without your face, they have no proof it was you.
There's always been a question as to the constitutionality of those cameras as our constitution promises the right to face your accusor. In this case there is no accusor to face so...

TBH, it could always be the self-centered California drivers.

a related story. speed cameras have been standard in korea for many years and when they were first being installed there was a lot of controversy because the photos which were sent to the speeders' homes were capturing the drivers in questionable situations (extra-marital affairs, etc). soon after they started blurring out the drivers/passengers.

I've heard that some of those intersection ones will also check your speed as you go through the light, so you often get the pleasure of getting slammed with a speeding ticket and a ticket for running a light. The speeding ticket would probably be at least 10 over too. I don't know many people that go the limit as they run lights.

they were declared unconstitutional in this state....yet I notice yesterday they are still getting installed. I suspect a new legal push on them soon.
