It reads and writes Blu-ray, reads HD DVD's and of course normal DVD's and CD's as well. The one review does mention that the drive requires HDCP for you to hook it up to say, a TV or an HDCP compliant monitor, but you probably already knew that. As for me, it's simply a case of being able to do both formats at a price that's more than reasonable for the convenience.
