View Full Version : Installing Apps on a Non-Boot Partition

I originally partitioned my boot partition (C: ) to be fairly small. After two years, most of the latest versions of the apps I use everyday (AutoCAD, Adobe apps, 3D CG stuff) have multiplied in terms of their installation size. It's actually time for a reformat, but I have a deadline in about a week and i just don't have time to do it now. So I'm thinking of installing some apps on a separate partition. Is there any reason i shouldn't do this?
p.s. What's the rule for allocating space for your boot partition? Is it better to have just enough for your essential apps, or is okay to have generous amounts of empty space?

can't you just use one of the many apps I can't think of right now to resize your partition?
There is no rule any more. Me, I don't partition, I use separate drives, but back in the day when I did do that, I usually just split it down the middle.

There are some applications that will freak out if you don't install them to the C: drive, but most should be OK.
(Sadly I don't have a list of any that don't work, I've just heard of them before).

so you can resize partitions without affecting the data on them?

Thanks. MM34, I knew you'd have a couple freewares up your sleeve.
However, I'm thinking of just reformatting completely while i'm at it. i haven't wiped my computer in like 3 years :dead: and it's about time i did a little spring cleaning. I'll keep those apps bookmarked for future use though. thanks again.
