I've been looking at different options for backing up all the crap (I mean important files) that have built up on my hard drive. I've usually used a 2nd backup drive and used a program like Goodsync every week or so to keep my main drive backed up. Unfortunately either I'm very unlucky, or desktop drives just don't have a great lifespan and I've had 2 last me less than 2 years each.

Has anyone used any online Backup Services before? The main one I've heard good things about is Mozy. I'm going back and forth between just getting another drive or going online with the backup. Cost wise I think it will be about the same in the long run. The online backup will take a while to get going, but once everything is online, the incremental backups will take some, but not to many system resources and the backup would be offsite in case of a fire or something catastrophic. Any opinions/thoughts/experiences with online vs. local?

Don't have time to look up the link, but this was discussed a couple of weeks ago here.

Anyway, I use, and love, carbonite. That being said, I also have local backup. Local backup is great, but if your house burns down it's not much help.

For my, my external hard drive is the "whoops I deleted something" backup, and Carbonite is the real disaster recovery solution. I had a scare once and thought I lost all my MP3's. That'll never happen again :)

Thanks. I'll look up the old thread, I must have missed it. If anyone else has any new input that would be great.
