A suit was filed a while ago claiming that ATI and NVidia colluded on both the price and releases of their video cards and $1.7 million was agreed upon (with the lawyers keeping 35% as their "expenses"). If you are elgible to participate, you need to file before March 5, 2009.

Now the important details- are you elgible? They ask two questions. First, are you an employee of NVidia or AMD/ ATI? If so, you are not elgible.
Second, "Did you purchase at least one graphics processing card product online from the websites of ATI Technonogies (shopATI.com) or NVidia Corporation (www.nvidia.com) during the period from December 4, 2002 to November 7, 2007, at a time when you resided in the United States?

Sorry, this does not cover you if you bought a video card somewhere else like NewEgg. Says you could expect a check for about ten percent of your purchase price or possibly more- depending on how many people file claims. If you did buy from their websites and do not have any receipts you can rely on their paperwork to support your claim.

For more information and forms (you can file online) go to www.gpuantitrust.com or www.gpuantitrustsettlement.com . I received this in the mail today because a few years ago I bought an ATI video card from the clearance section of their website. I am sharing the info in case any of you purchased from them too. I felt it was better to post in under Hardware instead of Got Deals thinking more of you would catch it here.

Sheesh - talk about a windfall for the lawyers!

I'd bet less than 1% of ATI & nVidia cards are sold through their website. They're either bundled with a system or sold through resellers.

And too bad for laptop users, I guess...

Yeah, this was a little while back and probably not many of you qualified, but I did and sent in a request. This week I got a check for over $100 out of it! I expected maybe $20- $25 so it will be a nice stimulus check for me. Probably did not get many people file claims. Don't remember what I paid for the card but it was probably around $200. Help pay for the latest camera lens I bought (Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8)!

I bought a couple cards from ATI when they had a nice trade-in program. I was expecting something like $30-$40, not the $230 check that I got. It's always nice to get a pleasant surprise once in a while. :)
