55 degrees, no snow, and sun made for a beautiful ride on Saturday. I even was able to ride into work, 40 degrees, at 5:30AM and will have a 65 degree ride home.... We may even hit 70 on Wednesday :woohoo: . Can't ask for much more here for Jan. Oh and Lance is back :woohoo:... Gonna come up for the Leadville 100????

Not nearly coordinated enough to use rollers. My mind would wander then it would be smack into the wall, then ruin the bike, and have to go to the emergency room.... I have a trainer and spend of the time in spin classes int he winter but it has been pretty nice to us here in CO.

I got my first real ride of the year in- I can't use the weather for an excuse for not getting out. Did an easy 25 miles with some hills. Felt good. Planning a few more rides this week.
It was announced that the Tour of California is coming to the San Diego area but it is at the outside range of my current riding ability (I don't have a car). Lance Armstrong and his Astana team will be riding- from Ramona to Escondido with a trip over Mount Palomar (where there is a famous telescope). That would be the place to watch. http://www.cyclingnews.com/news.php?id=features/2008/tour_of_california_jul08 I have a friend who is a bike nut (70 miles or more a day every day) and he rides Palomar regularly. I think he spends more time on his bike than in bed (literally!).

Zippy I used to be there. I have only been riding for a year and a half. I am a bike nut. I cant get enough on the bike. Once you can get used to being in the saddle for 30-50 miles 70, 100, 120, or 130 is about the same. I would love to see that race but cant afford to get out there. Trip for Europe late this year. 2014 I convinced the wife to go out to see maybe a stage of the tour and use the rest to bike through France for a week or two :-).... Biking is the best thing fitness and health wise I ever did. There is a new ride out here I heard of called the Mountain to Desert ride. It goes from Telluride to Moab 133 miles and I cant wait to do it. Its all mental if you can manage being in the saddle. Keep it up... You will be riding 70in no time.

I was able to get out for a few rides the first week of January but with travel and the weather cooling a bit it will probably be a few more weeks before I can get out regularly. Until then it's spin classes, the trainer and a little bit of Wii fit mixed in.
Cheapie, what kind of rollers do you have? I was thinking about getting some but have heard mixed reviews. I've heard some great things about e-motion rollers but those seem a bit pricey for those of us that aren't pros.

it was -4 on the way to work today. prolly still not going to be ride outside for quite a while.
i...ummm...have the e-motion rollers. :2far: i am certainly not a pro but those things are sooooo nice and easy to use. i just pop in a dvd and ride as long as i want. the way it moves back and forth really makes it easy to ride and lets you stand up and crank hard w/o worrying about riding through your tv. love 'em!

Definately not good to be breathing heavily in that temperature. I have experienced it in Colorado quite a few times.Instead of riding I walked the two miles to school on those days (college). Triple layers of clothes, ice forming on the eyebrows and the scarf over the face. There was a foot or two of snow too which would have made riding harder too. I was a bit more hardcore back then and even rode in 60mph cross winds (bike leans about a 45 degree angle and you still get pushed around).

Are they worth the money? It isn't something I would consider doing at this point in the year but I may for next winter. I've been really bad about using my trainer this winter so I'm not sure if the wife would go for rollers :nono:

if the reason you don't use the trainer is because you don't like it and not because you're lazy, then yeah. it's totally worth it. it's truly almost the same as riding on the road.

I haven't used them, but yeah, they are supposed to be closer to riding on the road- in part because you still have to balance you bike to keep on the rollers. No turning on rollers recommended!

It may be a combination of the two. I'm really not a lazy person but really don't enjoy riding on the trainer at all and get bored very quickly.
I may have to try a less expensive set first and see if I use them.

Try parking it in front of the TV and stick a movie in your DVD player.

I always watch TV when riding the trainer but am typically really antsy to get off it after an hour. Just don't enjoy it at all. I typically watch sports, which normally holds my interest.
I'm hoping that the realism of rollers will help make it more enjoyable.

if your limit is an hour (which is actually pretty good) try mixing in some intervals, one-leg drills, etc. that will make the hour go quicker and will be more beneficial than just turning the pedals for an hour.

Thought you guys could apprecaite this.... My wife called me at work yesterday morning. My little two year old was on the phone and she asked him where is daddy. He says work at the cycle store. Its funny what they manage to associate together. I ride my bike to work and he thinks I work at a cycle store. Also if he sees a bike crossing sign and you ask him whats that he says daddy work. :-) Must be doing something right. Also we were at the bicycle store last week she asked him where he was at and said Disney Land. Just funny..
