I have a digital SLR camera, but this is the the point-and-shoot I take with me when I just can't take a huge camera with me. The Canon Powershot SD790IS is the perfect point-and-shoot because it's one of the newest models, has most of the features of the top end models, but is still priced very reasonably. Considering how quickly digital cameras get updated, it doesn't made sense to buy the top end models.
