I've been planning to get a PS3 for a long time, mainly for use as a blu-ray player. With the recent sale at Dell, I got it for a pretty good price. Although it's gonna be used mainly as a blu-ray player, I'm excited at the prospect of playing some good games as well.
So far I have on my wishlist (mostly taken straight from "Best Games of 2008"-type articles)
- GTA4
- Metal Gear Solid 4
- Dead Space
- Gran Turismo
- Portal
- Prince of Persia
- Little Big Planet
- Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
- Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)
Hey, PS3 owners. What are some memorable games you've played recently?

burnout paradise
SW force unleshed
LBP
The Lego games - batman, IJ and Starwars.
And donnie picked up overlord for $15 at Sam's yesterday so I am sure he will be playing that soon.

I second this list. Frankly, with all the free downloadable content, Burnout Paradise and LittleBigPlanet are about the best gaming values anywhere.

I personally like Warhawk, Call of Duty 4 and/or World at War, Grand Theft Auto was ok.. Bioshock seems decent but I havent got very far yet, been cheap lately at Best Buy.. Metal Gear was ok, but I'm not that much of a fan of that series.
Little Big Planet was cool for a while, but we've been boycotting it until they release the online Co-op Creation.
Motorstorm was a pretty decent Racing game.
And Rock Band, but most people have played that on one system or another..
The upconvert seems pretty decent on the DVD / Blu-Ray player. I haven't watched a single blu-ray in it. I hate that the price is higher for movies and such, cause I just don't get why.

The upconversion does work pretty well, at least from what I've witnessed so far.
And as for games, well, if you're into sports games, NBA 2K9! I play that like it's my religion. It's just gorgeous...

Oh! Forgot a DL game that we play a lot.
Elefunk
It's kinda like crayon physics (http://www.crayonphysics.com/) or world of goo (http://2dboy.com/games.php) which are also fun and addictive.

considering the player "makes" the game, sports games are probably the best bang for your buck. i wish i liked sports games more.

just curious. i've been playing a lot of downloaded demos recently. sometimes the demos fill the whole screen, and a lot of times the screen is smaller than full screen. is this normal for demos?

i don't think so. they look HD (maybe 720p??) just smaller than the whole screen. Chrissy, have you played demos before? You've never noticed this?

figured it out. it was a setting on my monitor. under scaling i had it as "1:1" instead of "aspect."
thanks guys.

Bought one for my brother last Christmas with MGS4 and 4 controllers. He likes it, but likes gaming online with his 360 better.
