This thread is mainly directed at Cheapie and Smeakim but it'd be great to hear anyone else's goals if they want to contribute.

I was wondering what your goals were for this year whether they be specific events, total mileage, etc...

As for myself, I will ride my first century this year and want to log at least 2500 miles. I've gotten an earlier start this season than my first 2 and am hopefully well on my way.

I plan on doing the MS 150 Tour de Vine and possibly the Bike MS ride in Greenville, SC.

I also want to enter at least one road race and one crit. The crit will probably be one of the race series in Charlotte and I'm not sure which road race I will enter.

Mine are more modest- just to get out and ride more. My work schedule changes constantly and that makes it hard to get any sort of an exercise routine going. This past week for example I had two days I had to go in at 5:00 in the morning and two where I had to go in at 4:00 at night and work until 1:00 am They were not consecutive- open, close, open, close (with a day off between the close/ open). At least I have a decent paying job.

Tell me about it. I don't typically have hours that vary but traveling makes it difficult to log miles on the bike.

Cheapie, what type of cycling vacations are you going to take? Something overseas or here in the US?

Work is just taking up too much of my day that it took me this long to see this thread... :)

Well when the weather gets warmer here I will start commuting to work 3-4 days a week (32 mile round trip). Also want to lose about 15 pounds which gets me to 14% BF. As far as rides this year.... Quite a busy year

1)Warm Up Ride Community Classic (Metric Century)
2)Ride up MT Evans (2 Hours to the base and then another 4K feet making it a total climb for a day of 14K feet)
3)Triple By Pass (120 miles 10K feet of climbing)
4)Blue River Century (Loveland, Ute, Freemont pass)
5)BRAN (Bike Ride Across Nebraska 454 miles riding it on my fixed)
6)Then the last of the season is either the Copper Triangle Century or The Mountain to Desert Ride (130 miles Telluride to Moab

I will ride (work commute)about 2500 miles. I will then put on another 1500 miles in events. I will then also probably ride another 1000 miles on the weekends.

Once I get to my goal weight, this year will be biking and then I will start training for a triathlon next year. If I can get my shins to cooperate for the running I would love to do an IRONMAN before I am 35.

3)Triple By Pass (120 miles 10K feet of climbing)

Oh man. I've heard horror stories about this one!

really? 6k miles? how much are you riding already? that's a pretty huge number if you haven't already been putting in 3-4k already. that's an average of 16 miles/day for the entire year.

if you haven't already been on your bike in '09, you're already 650 miles behind! :wavey:

I probably have ridden at least 40+ every weekend. The weather has been pretty cooperative with us here in CO this year. I am probably a little behind, but my commuting miles will pick up about March. So March-Sept (6 months avg 4 weeks a month a 100 miles a week gives me about 2400 miles) Last year I rode well into December before it go too cold. 2400 + 1000 in events + Normal Saturday/Sunday Ride (40 miles gives me about 160 a month 960) gives me a conserative total 4360 miles for everything. That also doesnt include the 4 days a week I spend spinning for an hour in the morning right now.

The Triple By Pass is an awsome ride and was a blast. Its all mental. If you can ride a century then its just a matter of turning the pedals until the end.

Also if anyone cares the best thing I did for my fitness riding is buying a fixed gear 46/18 which I ride everywhere except when I start climbing. It will do wonders for your pedaling and strength. No shifting down you just have to power through it.

So i guess I wont get to 6K but 4360 is a lot isnt it? Plus if you couldn't tell I am so addicted riding its sad. In fact, last night I had a dream I was racing with Lance Armstrong as a team mate. It was the most vivid dream I can remember in a long time.

Also without Specialized Armadillos (bobm proof protection) which I have got 2500 out of I go through tires like there is no tomorrow.

wow. that's a ton of miles.

i've been wanting to turn my trek 7.5 fx into a fixie for that very reason.

The only reason to stay up for new years was to sign up for the TBP. I signed up at 12:05AM on Jan1. It was closed by mid day on JAN3. They are talking about doing a reverse Triple next year or even an out and back. Now that would be awsome 240 miles in two days. Here is my fixie

Its made by sun bicycles.... I love it..... I am thinking of going down to 46/16 but the 18 is working well so far and some of the hills I have to climb would be muder on a 16T. Also no rat traps for me I run Shimano SPDs....

Hey my wife is not in to cycling but I left a magazine on the table on bike trips and she wants to do one now. We may plan to go into 2014 back to Europe and see a stage of the Tour or Giro and make it a bike trip. Cheapie if you or VT make it out here to CO we will have to go for a ride the local shop will rent bikes. I can take you on a few cool beautiful rides. We can do Mt Evans, or Loveland Pass (This is where the continential divide is), we could do Vail Pass or a few other smaller pretty rides.

I'll be up at Vail March 5-9 but I'm not sure if my southeastern blood could handle the cold at that time of year!

I'd love to be able to ride during the week but due to travel I'm relegated to spinning a few days during the week and getting out on the road Friday - Sunday. It's amazing how many more miles you can log if you ride your commute.

Yeah but some days after 8-9 hours of work the 16 miles home is not always fun. Most days its enjoyable though. Well most of the pretty rides are hard to do during the winter so if you come out in the summer we will have to ride.
