For hitched folks here...

what's for dinner this saturday?

With a new-found determination to save money, I'm going to cook for her this Saturday night. I'm planning on doing short ribs, a la minimalist recipe (http://video.nytimes.com/video/2008/02/12/dining/1194817094889/braised-short-ribs.html), but going with a slow cooker.

What are you doing? eating out? cooking?

We'll probably eat out at one of our favorite restaurants, but save the fancy dinner for my wife's B-day in 6 days after that.

We really haven't talked about it. I will probably make steak sandwiches - got a good recipe from another board that is VERY yummy. So that unless something else happens.

Good question. The missus really likes my chicken piccata, so maybe I'll force myself to serve up a batch.

I'm going to be adding squash soup to the recipe, following alton brown's recipe (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/squash-soup-recipe/index.html). I hope it tunrs out good.

I am taking the gf out to dinner. I already bought her some Godiva's chocolate; I got a sweet (no pun intended) deal on the Godiva's.

I might decide to make her something from one of my new bacon cookbooks though.

Which bacon cookbook do you have? I have gotten some tasty recipes out of the book, Seduced by Bacon: Recipes & Lore about America's Favorite Indulgence, I have. I just picked up a pound of Amish bacon earlier today. :lick:

I bought that one and The Bacon Cookbook: More than 150 Recipes from Around the World for Everyone's Favorite Food from amazon.

My biggest problem is finding a meat market that sells the different styles of bacon. My local Ralphs and Pavilions are not helping =\

Dude, there is an Amish market and they have the best bar-none bang for your buck bacon. It is $4.50/lb. They carry three kinds: Hickory Smoked, Maple, and Peppercorn. I have had better bacon than they sell but it was way more expensive and not better enough to justify the price.

What kind of bacon are you looking for?

I am going to have order that bacon book you have. :lick:

Some of the receipes call for bacon with a rind on it (sorry I don't have the book in front of me) and those sounded really good. I figured when I bought it, there was only one kind of bacon (gogo Farmer John's!), when I got this book there was almost a page and a half of different kinds of bacon. It was a little overwhelming and to be honest a little intimidating.

The Amish sell bacon with the rind on it. I can send you some. :)

wife is working tonight and i worked today she also worked 12 midnights last night. we spoke on the cell phomes this morning as i was on the road before she got home .and she left to her job before i got home tonight. as i said before she works 12 hour shifts.and makes it home about 8 am in the morning. i just went up to the local store and ordered a sandwish take out tonight. i be out of the house before she gets home tomorrow morning to.but she has the night off and i told her i try and call it a short day if all gos ok .today it sure didn't do. right from the get i know it was going to be bad. I left 1/2 my equipment (work tools) in my car and i also knew it was a bad day when i went to turn on my wipers and only the driver side was working and the roads were still covered with snow about 2 inchs or better of snow and still falling lightly. fun fun fun was all i could say .
