I told my sister about an inexpensive monitor from Office Max listed yesterday online. She bought it and it came today. She hooked it up and she is finding pixelation and words that are faded on the Web.
I told her to try different resolution settings and nothing is working. The computer is 5 years old. The manual is horrible so she is not sure of how to change the settings on the monitor.
I am going to her house tomorrow and try different things, but I can't think of anything other than what I mentioned. Could it just be a crappy monitor?

Any LCD displayed at anything other than its native resolution will look fuzzy...
That monitor (just looked at the ad) is 1680x1050 Resolution... See if there are video drivers available to allow the computer to display that resolution.
This guy panned it: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1350086
Other forum posts (google them) talk about dead pixels beign common on these...

Thanks, mike. If I can't find drivers, and if I find a video card which has that resolution available, would that be the easiest fix?

I went to her house this morning and the 1680 X 1050 resolution was avaialble. The type was very small on the Screen after I adjusted it, which she didn't care for.
Anyway, she was comparing the LCD to her old CRT monitor, which admittedly doesn't look as sharp and as bright as the CRT monitor. She does some Photoshop and needs clear and sharp images. She sent the LCD monitor back.

1680 x 1050 is pretty standard at that size. If that resolution is too hard for her to read, she'll need to go with either a smaller monitor, or a higher quality one that that can display lower resolutions better.

This won't help Photoshop, but don't forget:

Make sure that Clear Type is turned on, too, as it can help with LCD monitors.
